초록

Sacbrood virus (SBV), a causative agent of larval death and colony collapse in Apis cerana F. honeybee, is prevalent and poses one of the most significant threats to the South Korea.
Thus, development of new germ line against to this viral disease is urgently needed. In this study we bred a new germ line against sacbrood disease. A comparison of the morphological analysis of the new germ line of A. cerana (named hallabeol which has resistance to the sacbrood disease was overall longer in body, abdomen, and wing; and wider in head and wing, whereas antenna was shorter compared to typical A. cerana. The assay for hygienic behavior by pin-killing method to determine the resistance to sacbrood disease showed that the ratio of total elimination of dead pupae was about 69% in hallabeol for 24 hrs, showing 11% higher activity compared to control. Artificial inoculation of SBV to 3,877 healthy pupae maintained to approximately 3,592 cases 45 days after infection in hallabeol, whereas the number of caped pupae in typical A. cerana decreased dramatically from 4,061 cases to 125, indicating no occurrence of the disease in hallabeol. The number of worker bees infected decreased from about 6,184 to 3,592 45 days after infection in hallabeol worker bees, whereas the non-resistant A. cerana worker bees decreased from 6,260 to 1,625 hallabeol could collect 20.7 mg of nector per bee, indicating 12.6% of increase than normal A. cerana.
