러시아 통번역사 연구: 키예프 루시~17세기 (Research on the history of Russian interpreting and translation: from Kievan Rus’ to the 17th century)

초록

본 연구에서는 러시아의 초대 국가 루시부터 18세기 이전까지 번역사회학의 관점에서 통번역과 통번역가들이 사회에 미친 영향과 역할에 대해 고찰하였다. 고대 루시에 등장한 최초 슬라브 문자는 성서 번역을 위해 만들어진 것으로 이를 사용해 기록된 문헌은 오늘날 슬라브연구에 있어 중요한 자료가 되는 고대 교회 슬라브어의 토대가 되었다. 이렇듯 고대 루시에서는 문자와 번역이 동시에 등장했고, 번역을 통해 성서를 비롯한 여러 문헌이 번역되기 시작했다. 번역을 통해 수용한 유럽의 종교, 철학, 언어학, 문학은 현재 러시아가 가진 모든 학문적 역량에 초석이 되었다. 키예프 루시에 등장한 외국인 통번역가들은 고대 유럽이 만들어낸 문명을 슬라브인에게 전파하며 유럽과 러시아를 연결시켰고 이들에 이어 등장한 슬라브인 통번역가들은 러시아어와 러시아 문학의 발전을 이끌었으며 러시아인들의 고유한 정신세계를 형성하는 데 크게 기여했다.
이후 발전의 중심이 모스크바로 옮겨지면서 통번역과 통번역가들은 외교 업무를 전담하는 전문기구로 제도화됐다. 16세기에 등장한 Посольский приказ에는 외교 업무와 이 기관이 담당한 다양한 업무를 수행하는 전문 통번역가 그룹이 있었다. 통번역의 구분이 분명치 않았던 과거와 달리 통역과 번역의 구분이 명확해지고 통역가와 번역가 역시 толмач, драгоман(이후 переводчик)으로 불리며 그 역할을 달리했다. 모스크바 루시의 외교적 역량이 확대되면서 посольский приказ에 소속 통번역가는 한때 그 수가 200명을 넘어설 정도로 큰 조직으로 발전해갔다. Посольский приказ의 통번역가가 되기 위해서는 엄격한 시험을 통과해야 했고 경력에 따라 처우도 달라졌다. Посольский приказ를 중심으로 전문화, 고도화된 통번역은 이후 표트르 대제 시대에 개혁의 원동력으로써 사회 곳곳에 거대한 영향을 미치게 된다.

영어초록

In this study, we examined the influence and role of interpreters and translators on society from the perspective of translation sociology from Russia's founding state of Russia until the 18th century. The first Slavic script that appeared in ancient Rus was created for the translation of the Bible, and the literature written using it formed the Old Church Slavonic language, which is an important source of information in Slavic studies today. In this way, writing and translation appeared simultaneously in ancient Russia, and through translation, various documents, including the Bible, began to be translated. Western religion, philosophy, linguistics, and literature accepted through translation at the time became the cornerstone of all of Russia's current academic capabilities. The foreign interpreters and translators who appeared in Kiev Rus' spread the civilization created by ancient Europe to the Slavs, connecting Europe and Russia. The Slavic interpreters and translators who appeared after them led the development of the Russian language and Russian literature and introduced the unique spiritual world of the Russians. contributed greatly to its formation.
Meanwhile, as the center of development moved to Moscow and Moscow began to take shape as a nation, interpreters and translators were institutionalized as professional organizations dedicated to diplomatic work. The Посольский приказ, which appeared in the 16th century, had a group of professional interpreters and translators who performed diplomatic work and various tasks handled by the foreign affairs department at the time. Unlike in the past, when the distinction between interpretation and translation was unclear, the distinction between interpretation and translation became clearer, and interpreters and translators were also called толмач, драгоман (later переводчик) and had different roles. As Moscow Russia's diplomatic capabilities expanded, the number of interpreters and translators belonging to посольский приказ grew into a large organization, numbering over 200 at one time, unlike in the early days when there were only a few. In order to become an interpreter and translator, a person had to pass a rigorous test and treatment varied depending on experience. The specialized and advanced interpretation and translation centered on посольский приказ later had a huge impact on all corners of society as a driving force for reform during the era of Peter the Great.
