일본 근대화산업유산의 가치와 활용에 대한 사례 연구 - 긴키지방의 산업유산박물관을 중심으로 - (A Case Study on the Value and Utilization of Japanese Heritage of Industrial Modernization:Focusing on the Industrial Heritage Museums of the Kinki Region)

초록

본 글은 일본 긴키지방을 중심으로 산업박물관의 사례를 살펴보고 국내에서 산업유산을 활용한 박물관의 성격과 역할을 어떻게 정립해야 할 것인가에 대해 검토하였다. 박물관에서 보유한 유물의 가치가 가장 중요하듯이 산업박물관에서 가장 중요한 가치는 산업기술 그 자체에 있다. 이를 위해서는 과거의 산업기술과 관련된 물질적 증거에 대해 체계적인 연구를 수행하는 산업고고학적 접근방법이 수반되어야 한다. 산업박물관은 건물 자체가 건축학적으로 중요한 산업유산이기도 하지만 가장 중요한 산업사적 가치, 역사적 가치, 장소와 시대적 맥락을 잘 설명하는 전시기법을 사용하야 하고 산업기술사적 가치, 시대적 맥락, 기술발전 로드맵, 관련 정책, 인물, 사회적 파급효과 등과 함께 전시할 수 있는 방향으로 나아가야 한다. 또한 제작공정을 이해할 수 있도록 생산과 제작과정을 재현할 수 있는 전시도 마련되어야 한다.
산업유산은 역사적, 기술적, 사회적, 건축적 또는 과학적 가치가 있는 산업문화의 유산이며, 산업에 관련된 사회활동을 위해서 사용된 공간이기 때문에, 현대의 공공역사는 새로운 공동체의 기억과 정체성을 만들어 낸 산업유산과 밀접한 관계가 있다. 따라서 산업박물관은 타인과의 경험을 공유하는 지역민의 장소기억에 대한 자료를 끊임없이 수집하고 이를 전시의 형태로 나누어야 집단기억에 기초한 지역정체성을 만들어낼 수 있다. 산업박물관이 지향해야 할 핵심적인 가치는 산업유산의 산업기술사적 가치를 평가하고 해석하는 것이며 나아가 이 가치가 지역민 개개인의 공통의 기억 속에서 공공의 역사로 치환되어야 한다는 점이다. 그런데 실제 이러한 핵심적인 과업의 완성은 지역사회의 참여와 협력에 달려 있다고 해도 과언이 아니다. 특히 지역민의 참여, 지방정부의 지원 및 다양한 전문가 집단과의 협력을 통한 거버넌스는 산업유산의 관리, 보존, 및 연구의 실천전략에 가장 중요한 사항이라고 할 수 있다.

영어초록

This article examines the cases of industrial heritage museums in the Kinki region of Japan and examines how to establish the nature and role of museums utilizing industrial heritage in Korea. Just as the value of the artifacts held in a museum is considered the most important, the most important value in an industrial heritage museum lies in the industrial technology itself. To this end, an industrial archaeological approach must be accompanied by a systematic study of material evidences related to past industrial technologies. Although a building itself is an architecturally important industrial heritage, an exhibition technique that explains the most important historical values of industrial technologies, places and historical context should be used. It should move in a direction that can be exhibited along with policies, people, and social effects. Also, an exhibition that can reproduce the production and production process should be prepared so that the production process can be understood.
Industrial heritage is a heritage of industrial culture with historical, technological, social, architectural or scientific value, and since it is a space used for industrial-related social activities that has created memories and identities of new communities, it is closely related to modern public history. Therefore, industrial heritage museums can create a regional identity based on collective memories by constantly collecting data on local people's memories of places who share their experiences with others and categorized them into exhibitions. The core value that industrial heritage museums should aim for is to evaluate and interpret the industrial and technological historical value of industrial heritage. Furthermore, this value should be replaced with public history in the common memory of each local citizen. However, it is no exaggeration to say that the actual completion of these core tasks depends on the participation and cooperation of the local community. In particular, governance through the participation of local residents, support from local governments and cooperation with various groups of experts is the most important aspect of the management, conservation, and research strategy of industrial heritage.
