학교 밖 청소년의 학업중단 경험에 관한 질적 연구 : 학업중단 이전, 당시, 이후 경험을 중심으로 (A Qualitative Research on School Dropout Experience of Adolescents Outside School : Focusing on pre-dropout, current dropout, post-dropout)

초록

본 연구는 학교 밖 청소년의 학업중단 경험에 대한 질적 분석을 통해 학업 중단을 통해 겪는 경험과 인식, 나아가 학교 밖 청소년들에게 필요한 지원에 대해 심층적으로 알아보고자 하였다. 이를 위해 학교밖청소년지원센터에 내방한 청소년 10명을 면접하고 합의적 질적 연구방법으로 분석하였다. 그 결과, 처음 학업중단을 고민한 시기, 생각한 이유, 이전 경험, 당시 계획, 받고 싶은 도움, 이후 생활 및 필요한 것 등 21개의 영역이 도출되었다. 도출된 21개의 영역을 학업중단 이전, 학업중단 당시, 학업중단 이후의 경험으로 분류하여 결과를 제시하였다. 연구결과를 바탕으로 한 결론과 제언은 다음과 같다.
첫째, 학업중단 후 학교 밖에서 자신의 꿈을 찾아 도전하는 학교 밖 청소년들에 대해 긍정적이고 가능성을 바라봐주는 사회적 인식의 전환이 요구된다. 둘째, 청소년의 학업중단은 학교, 가정, 친구문제 등 부정적인 사건들이 혼재되어 있으며, 일시적으로 학업중단을 결정하기 보다는 누적되어 온 갈등 속에서 학업중단이 문제해결을 위한 하나의 결과물로 작용하였다. 이에 지역사회와 관련기관의 협조체제 구축 및 지원이 요구된다. 셋째, 학교 밖 청소년에게 일괄적인 학업지원이 아닌, 다양한 요구에 따른 맞춤형 서비스의 제공이 필요하다. 본 연구결과는 학교 밖 청소년을 상담하고 교육하는 데 경험적 자료를 제시하고, 나아가 학교 밖 청소년을 둘러싼 부모, 교사, 상담자의 역할에 대한 시사점과 지역사회의 향후 개입에 대한 방향을 제시하는 기초자료가 될 것이다.

영어초록

This study was intended to investigate awareness and what adolescents outside school experience through academic interruption by qualitatively analyzing the school dropout experience of adolescents, and moreover, to investigate the type of support that school dropout adolescents need in depth. To this end, this study interviewed 10 adolescents who visited the youth counseling welfare center and analyzed the content through consensual qualitative research method. As a result, 21 areas as the period when they first considered about giving up their studies, the reason, previous experience, plan at the time, help they need, life after school dropout, and what they need were derived. This study presented results by classifying 21 areas into before school dropout, at the time of school dropout, and after school dropout. Conclusions and recommendations based on the research results are as follows.
First, change in social recognition that sees possibility of adolescents outside school positively who challenge themselves to find their dream outside school after giving up their studies is required. Secondly, academic interruption of adolescents is surrounded by negative events as school, family, and family problems, and academic interruption worked as one of the outcome for solving a problem in accumulated conflicts instead of deciding to give up their studies temporarily. Therefore, construction and support of cooperation systems of local community and related organization are needed. Thirdly, school dropout adolescents need the provision of customized services according to various demands, not standardized academic support. The results of this study will provide empirical data for counseling and educating adolescents outside school, and moreover, they will provide implications of the role of parents, teachers, and counselors of adolescents outside school and work as a basic data that suggests direction for community intervention in the future.
