문화경관으로서의 DMZ 철원 민북마을 일상경관 읽기 - 주민 심층 인터뷰 및 근거이론을 활용하여 - (The Interpretations of Ordinary Landscapes of Minbuk Village, Cheorwon, near DMZ Borders as Cultural Landscapes - Using Residents’ In-depth Interviews and Grounded Theory -)

초록

본 연구는 멈추어 있는 대상으로서의 경관이 아닌, 내부자 관점으로 바라본 일상사 속 변화하는 과정으로서의 경관인 ‘일상경관(Ordinary Landscape)’ 읽기에 대한 시도다. DMZ 접경지역 철원 민북마을 주민 심층 인터뷰를 통해 일상사를 수집하여 근거이론 분석 방법론을 활용한 귀납적 분석을 통해 일상경관 패러다임 모형을 제시하고 문화경관으로서의 일상경관을 분석하여DMZ 인근 철원 민북마을의 경관적 특성을 밝히는 것이 목적이다. 수집된 구술채록은 근거이론체계를 활용하여 49개의 개념과 19개의 하위범주 및 상위범주로 순으로 정리하여 도출했으며, 각범주는 ‘인과적 조건’, ‘맥락적 조건’, ‘중심현상’, ‘중재적 조건’, ‘전략과 상호작용’, ‘결과’ 등 여섯개로 구분하고, 이를 DMZ 철원 민북마을 일상경관 패러다임 모형으로 제시하였다. 패러다임 모형의 분석은 잭슨(Jackson)이 주장한 경관 연구의 세 가지 기본 요소인 내부인의 ‘주거지’, 물리적경관 속에 스며든 ‘경관 문화’, 그리고, 일상생활에 정착된 ‘거주 활동’을 기준으로 한다. 분석은민북마을 주민들의 일상 속 경관이 지속적으로 변화해온 과정과 상호 관계성을 해석하여, 다음의다섯 가지 시사점으로 정리하였다. 첫 번째, ‘거시적 역사의 맥락 속 변화하는 미시적 일상과 공간’이고, 두 번째로 ‘원주민과 이주민의 전략적 마을 공동체 형성 및 유지’를 들 수 있으며, 세 번째로는 ‘과거에서 현재로 이어지는 일상적 환경조건 또는 현상’이 있다. 이 세 가지 현상은 DMZ 철원 민북마을의 일상경관을 구성하는 근본 요소로서, 마을의 생성부터 현재까지를 아우르는 경관 속 일상, 또는 일상 속의 경관이다. 네 번째, ‘민간인통제선 기준 내부, 경계, 외부구역 마을의변화하는 일상경관’은 끊임없는 외부요인에 의한 변화에도 철원평야를 중심으로 한 주민들 삶의영속에 대한 의지다. 마지막으로, ‘치유와 극복의 과정을 통해 기대하는 지역의 미래’는 지역의긍정 혹은 부정적 요인에 순응하고 주민들이 주도적으로 극복하며, 지역 애착심과 자긍심을 고취시키는 원동력이다. 이는 척박한 생활환경 조건 속에서도 주민들이 더 나은 미래를 위해 전략적 인내심으로 지역을 일구어 나가기 위한 중요 요소다. 이 다섯 가지의 공통점은 일상경관을 내부인의 관점에서 바라본 형성 과정과 상호 관계성을 근거이론의 패러다임 모형 분석을 통해 철원민북마을의 ‘주거지’, ‘경관 문화’, 그리고 ‘거주 활동’ 등 일상경관의 세 가지 특성으로 분석하고경관적 상호 관계성을 밝히는 것이 가능했다. 본 연구는 문화경관이 명사로서의 경관이 아닌, 오랜 시간에 걸쳐 꾸준히 축적된 내부인의 일상적 활동으로 인해 변화해온 동사로서의 일상경관가능성을 모색해 보는 것에 그 의의가 있다. 또한, 일상성이 내재 된 다양한 층위의 문화경관 특성 및 상호 관계성을 발견하기 위하여 일상경관 연구의 필요성을 강조하고, 향후 관련 연구의 초석이 되는 것에 그 의미가 있다.

영어초록

This study is an attempt at reading ‘ordinary landscapes’ from the insiders’ points of view, landscapes as changing processes in history of everyday life, rather as fixed physical objects.
The goal is to collect the narratives of history of everyday life of residents by using in-depth interviews in Minbuk Village, Cheorwon, near the DMZ borders. And, it is to propose a paradigm model for ordinary landscapes to analyze ordinary landscapes as important part of cultural landscapes through inductive analysis using grounded theory. The results show that six paradigms of ordinary landscapes by analyzing categories over 19 subcategories based on 49 concepts from the collected oral records are as followings: ‘causal conditions’, ‘contextual conditions’, ‘phenomenon,’ ‘intervening conditions, ‘actions and interactions, and ’consequences’.
Based on Jackson’s three elements of interpreting landscapes; ‘insider’s house or dwelling place’, ‘material manifestation of ‘culture’ in the landscape’, and ‘dwelling-activities’ in the practices of everyday life’(Jackson, 1995) to analyze the paradigm model expresses the processes and interrelationships of ordinary landscapes which have been changing constanttly with multi-layered ordinary landscapes in Minbuk Village, Cheorwon. The five interpretations of ordinary landscapes in Minbuk Village represent the following elements; first, microscopic history of everyday life of residents in context of macroscopic history; secondly, creating and maintaining tactical community with natives and migrants in the village; thirdly, ordinary environmental conditions and/or phenomenon throughout decades; forthly, transitions in ordinary landscapes based on the movement order of Civilian Control Line by military authorities that can be called as inner, border, and outer part of CCL; and lastly, expecting a better future through cures and overcomes of difficulties. The first three characteristics imply fundamental elements for ordinary landscapes of DMZ Minbuk Village from its beginnings to presents. And the last two signifies strong will of residents who would adapt to any changes in positive and/or negative environmental circumstances and would lead to progressive overcomes among the hardship life conditions to remain sustainable environments in Cheorwon plain area near DMZ borders. The five interpretations expose that the strategic patience of residents derive place attachment and pride of the village within barren environmental surroundings. Consequentially, the ordinary landscapes can the weaved as residents’ ‘dwelling place’ with ‘culture in the landscape’, as well as ‘dwelling activities’ for the five interpretations from the insiders’ perspectives and its interrelationships. This study is significant as it explores the possibilities of ordinary landscapes as a ‘verb’ in progress, not as a ‘noun’. Furthermore, the study is meaningful as it shows the necessity and importance of research studies on ’ordinary landscapes’ to discover five interpretations from insiders’ perspectives of places, and as a cornerstone for future related research.
