니케아-콘스탄티노플 신경의 관점에서 본 비잔틴 삼위일체론 -주기도문 해석을 중심으로 (Byzantine Trinitarian Theology from the Perspective of the Nicene-Constantinopolitan Creed : Focusing on the Interpretation of the Lord's Prayer)

초록

삼위일체 신학은 초기 기독교 신학에서 가장 중요한 주제였으며, 비잔틴 제국 교회 내에서 지속적인 논쟁의 중심에 있었다. 본 논문은 삼위일체 신학이 가장 활발하게 논의되었던 2-5세기 비잔틴 교부들의 작품을 중심으 로, 주기도문 본문을 통해 삼위일체 신학이 니케아-콘스탄티노플 신경의 관점에서 어떻게 전개되고 발전하였는지를 조망한다. 특히, 2-5세기 비잔 틴 교부들 중 삼위일체 신학에 가장 큰 기여를 한 알렉산드리아의 오리게네 스, 니사의 그레고리오스, 알렉산드리아의 키릴로스를 중심으로 그 흐름을 추적한다. 본 논문은 이러한 연구를 바탕으로, 오리게네스의 삼위일체 신학이 니케아-콘스탄티노플 신경의 관점에서 볼 때 이전 교부들에게서 찾아볼 수 없는 발전된 형태를 정립하였으나, 성자에 대한 종속적 표현과 ‘동일본질’(ὁµοούσιον) 신학에 대한 이해가 미흡했음을 지적한다. 이어서, 그레고리오스는 오리게네스의 삼위일체론을 수용하면서 삼위의 신성을 변호하고, 삼위 간의 동일성과 독립성을 확립하였으며, 특히 성령의 신성 을 강력하게 입증하였음을 확인한다. 또한, 키릴로스는 오리게네스와 그레고리오스의 삼위일체 신학을 계승하면서도 성자의 신성을 강하게 변호하였으며, 성자를 참된 기도의 대상으로 간주하지 않았던 오리게네스 의 입장을 보완하여 성자 또한 참된 기도의 대상임을 확증하였다. 그러나 그는 성자의 신성을 지나치게 강조함으로써 성부와 성자의 위격적 독립성 을 다소 모호하게 만들었으며, 성령의 위격을 상대적으로 약화시켰다는 점도 드러난다.

영어초록

Trinitarian theology was one of the most significant and controversial topics in early Christian theology within the Byzantine Church. This paper examines the development and evolution of Trinitarian theology from the perspective of the Nicene-Constantinopolitan Creed by analyzing the Lord's Prayer in the works of Byzantine Church Fathers from the 2nd to the 5th century, a period of intense Trinitarian debates.
In particular, this study traces the trajectory of Trinitarian theology by focusing on three key figures who made significant contributions to the doctrine: Origen of Alexandria, Gregory of Nyssa, and Cyril of Alexandria. Through this analysis, the paper highlights that while Origen formulated a more advanced form of Trinitarian theology than his predecessors, his theology, when viewed through the lens of the Nicene-Constantinopolitan Creed, reflects a subordinationist view of the Son and an incomplete understanding of the doctrine of homoousion(ὁμοούσιον).
Furthermore, the study confirms that Gregory of Nyssa, building upon Origen’s Trinitarian theology, defended the divinity of the three persons of the Trinity, established both their unity and distinctiveness, and, most notably, strongly affirmed the divinity of the Holy Spirit. Cyril of Alexandria, while incorporating Origen’s and Gregory’s theological insights, ardently defended the divinity of the Son. However, he corrected Origen’s exclusion of the Son from being a true object of prayer by affirming that the Son is indeed a rightful recipient of prayer.
At the same time, this study demonstrates that Cyril’s strong emphasis on the Son’s divinity partially obscured the personal distinction between the Father and the Son and slightly diminished the distinct personhood of the Holy Spirit.
