영어 학습자들의 영작문에 나타난 문법 오류분석 연구 (Profiling Korean English Learners' Writing Errors)

This study aimed to profile Korean English learners' grammatical errors when writing an English essay.
Before focusing on certain error types such as articles, comparatives, and passive sentences, and comparing feedback types, it was considered essential to profile learners' errors and understand them in terms of their proficiency levels. Among 2,474 university students' English essays that 26 native English-speaking professors evaluated with the same rubric, three levels of essays were examined and 102 essays were selected to be analyzed: 16 from 291 low level students, 56 from 339 average level students, and 30 from 36 high level students. A rubric to analyze English learners' writing errors was grounded based on observation as well as previous studies: 63 errors, 15 subcategories, and 3 categories. Interestingly, the smallest number of errors was observed from the low levels essays and the high and the average level essays presented broader and more frequent errors than the low level essays. The details of the results are given and the implications are discussed.
