초록

Background: This study aimed to evaluate the growth conditions for two medicinal plants, Angel- ica gigas Nakai and A. acutiloba (Siebold & Zucc.) Kitagawa, to enhance their production mass and quality.
Methods and Results: Various growth conditions were tested, revealing significant differences were found in seedling quality and production mass between A. gigas and A. acutiloba under diverse cultivation conditions. A strong correlation (r = 0.82) was observed between seedling length and seedling weight within A. gigas plug trays. Seedling length in the plug trays was linked to the ultimate production mass after transplantation in open fields, showing strong correlations with shoot length (r = 0.77), root length (r = 0.74) and root weight (r = 0.81). A robust correlation (r = 0.83) was demonstrated between the intensity of young seedling harvest and the extent of root turning during plug tray cultivation in A. acutiloba. Additionally, root weight, an indicator linked to production mass in open fields, showed strong correlations with shoot length (r = 0.87), shoot weight (r = 0.89) and root weight (r = 0.73).
Conclusions: This research emphasizes the significance adjusting seedling quality in medicinal plant cultivation to enhance productivity and quality, contributing to the sustainability and eco- nomic value of the medicinal plant industry.
