강화도 지석묘 사회의 형성과 발전 과정 재고 - 지석묘, 주거지, 경관 해석을 중심으로 - (Reconsideration of the Formation and Development Process of the Dolmen Society of Ganghwa Island)

초록

본고에서는 강화도 지석묘군의 구조와 최근 조사된 주거유적을 재검토하고, 대형 탁자식지석묘의 경관 해석을 통해 강화도 지석묘 사회의 형성과 전개, 지역사회로서의 발전 과정과 유지 전략 등을 새롭게 고찰해 보았다.
강화도 지석묘군은 지석묘의 형식 구성과 배치 구조에 따라 세 가지의 유형으로 분류할 수 있다. 이 유형들은 대동강·재령강유역의 지석묘 군집과 매우 유사한 구조적 특징을 보이며, 서북한지역의 가장 이른 단계부터 늦은 단계에 나타나는 유형에 속한다. 이는 양 지역의 지석묘가 동일한 문화적 전통을 가지고 있었으며, 강화도 지석묘 사회가 단순히 각형토기문화의 확산과 유입이 아닌 직접적인 이주에 의해 형성되었음을 시사한다.
한편 최근 강화도에서 조사된 각형토기문화와 역삼동·흔암리유형은 지석묘 사회 발전 과정의 역동성을 보여 준다. 그 전개 양상을 살펴보면, 청동기시대 전기 전엽에 각형토기문화를 기반으로 한 공동체가 강화도에 먼저 정주하였고, 전기 중엽에는 이들과 역삼동·흔암리유형의 단위공동체가 공존하고 있었다. 하지만 이들의 주거공간이 분리되어 있고, 문화접변 양상을 찾아볼 수 없는점으로 보아, 상호 배타적인 관계를 유지하고 있었다고 본다. 이후 각형토기문화 공동체는 지석묘를 매개로 복합화 과정을 거치면서 강화도 내 역삼동·흔암리유형 세력을 통합하는 한편, 내륙으로부터 이들의 유입을 차단하며 지역적 차원의 정치체로 성장한 것으로 보인다.
이러한 지역사회로의 발전 과정에서 대형 탁자식지석묘의 경관은 공동체를 유지·강화하는 수단으로 활용되고 있었다. 대형 지석묘의 축조 지점과 가시 권역은 내륙과 접하는 경계 지점에 해당한다. 이는 대외적으로 지역공동체의 점유 영역을 직·간접적으로 표현하고, 정체성을 강화하려는경관 조성 전략이 반영된 결과로 보인다. 한편 부근리지석묘에 대한 매개중심성 분석 결과, 사회네트워크 조직 내에서 정보를 통제하거나 의사소통 중개자로서 역할을 수행할 수 있는 공간적 위상을 지니고 있었다. 즉, 부근리지석묘 축조 공간은 국지적 단위공동체를 상호 연계할 수 있는 최적의 장소였다고 말할 수 있다. 이곳은 공동체 구성원들이 일상에서 거석기념물을 체험하며 동질성을 공유하는 장소이자, 소속감과 지역 애착을 지닌 사회구성원으로 재창조되는 의미화된 장소로구현되었던 것이다.

영어초록

In this paper, the structure of the Ganghwa island dolmens and the recently investigated settlements were reviewed, and the formation and development of the dolmen society of Ganghwa island, as well as strategies for maintaining it as a community were newly reviewed.
The Ganghwa island dolmens can be classified into three types depending on the type composition and layout of the dolmens. These cluster types exhibit structural characteristics that are very similar to the Taedong River and Jaryeong River Basin. In addition, the dolmen types appears in all forms from the earliest to the late stages of dolmen in the western North Korean region. This suggests that dolmens in both regions had the same cultural tradition, and that the Ganghwa island dolmen society was established not simply by the spread and inflow of the Top-type pottery culture, but by direct migration.
Meanwhile, the Top-type pottery, Yeoksam-dong, and Heonam-ri types, which were recently investigated in Ganghwa-island, show the dynamics of the social development process. In terms of its development, it is estimated that in the early Bronze Age, a community based on the Top-type pottery culture settled in Ganghwa island first, and in the middle of the early Bronze Age, they and the unit communities of Yeoksam-dong and Huam-ri culture coexist. However, given that their settlements were separated and that they could not find cultural interactions, it is believed that they maintained mutually exclusive relationships. Since then, the Top-type pottery communities have integrated Yeoksam-dong and Huam-ri culture communities in Ganghwa island through the process of combining dolmens as a medium, while blocking their inflow from inland, which seems to have grown into a regional political community.
In the process of developing into these regional communities, the landscape of large table-style dolmens was used as a means of maintaining and strengthening the community.
The construction places and visible area of the large dolmens correspond to the boundary bordering the inland area. This seems to be a result of the intentional landscape creation strategy to directly and indirectly express the occupied area of the Ganghwa-island dolmen construction group and strengthen the identity of the regional community in relation to the power formed on the Gimpo Peninsula. And the betweenness of Bugeun-ri dolmens showed that they had a spatial status to perform their roles and functions as intermediaries within the network organization. In other words, large dolmens were constructed in the best place to interconnect local unit communities. This was a place where community members share homogeneity by experiencing the monument in their daily lives, and a meaningful place where they are recreated as members of society with a sense of belonging and regional attachment.
