부여 규암면 외리출토 백제문양전 고찰 (Study of Baekjae Pattern Plates at the Weori Excavation Site in Gyuam-myeon, Buyeo)

초록

최근 부여 능산리 사지의 백제 대향로와 왕흥사의 목탑지 출토 사리구와 진단구가 출토되어 사비시기의 위덕왕대의 문화가 규명되면서 부여 규암면 외리출토의 백제 문양전의 성격도 새롭게 고찰할 수 있게 되었다. 본 논문에서는 백제 문양전의 형태적 특징을 문양전 출토상황과 벽전으로서 기능, 백제 문양전의 문양 분석을 통해 살펴보고, 이어서 도교의 관점에서 백제문양전의 도상해석을 시도하여 보았다.
문양전 문양은 이 문양의 구성을 중심연결문양인 삼산문과 화문을 따라 크게 두 그룹으로 나누어 볼 수 있었다. 三山紋으로 연결되는 산수문전 2종과 귀신문전 2종이 한 세트를 이루고, 花紋으로 연결되는 반룡문전 봉황문전, 연화문전, 연화와운문전은 부문양으로 새롭게 유입된 연주문이 테두리를 두르고 있다.
삼산으로 연결된 문양전은 비교적 고식의 요소를 내포하고 있는 반면, 그간 백제 미술에 있어 전혀 등장하지 않았던 주제인 연주문을 통한 花紋으로 연결된 조합은 새로운 문양 타입으로 볼 수 있다. 연주문은 본래 직물의 문양으로 사용된 것으로 여러 문양전을 연결할 수 있는 단서가 된다. 서역에서 출발하여 중국 북제나 수를 거친 것으로 이해되는 연주문이 포함된 문양전이 표현된 것은 위덕왕대 북제와의 새로운 외교정책과 무관하지 않은 것으로 생각된다.
따라서 외리의 백제 문양전은 개별적으로 존속하는 것이 아니라 전체의 유기적인 흐름을 가지고 있다. 특히 벽전이라는 기능을 생각하여 볼 때 특정한 목적을 가지고 제작된 것으로 판단된다. 더욱이 도교적인 내용이 강한 각 문양의 도상적인 성격을 볼 때 불교와 관계된 유적에서 사용되었을 가능성은 적다고 생각한다. 아마도 도교와 관련된 건물에 사용되었을 가능성이 크다고 본다. 문양전의 구체적인 용도에 대해서는 앞으로 좀 더 생각해 봐야하겠지만, 문양전의 문양내용이나 구성 및 제작 수준 등을 고려한다면, 적어도 국가나 왕실과 관련하여 제작된 것이 아니었을까 짐작된다.

영어초록

Recent excavations of the Baekjae Daehyangno(incense burner) at Neungsan-ri in Buyeo and sarira and jindangu(plates buried under structures for ritual purposes such as preventing destruction of the structure) at the wooden pagoda site at Wangheungsa temple to define the culture of King Wideok of the Sabi era. Through this, it became possible to newly examine the features of Baekjae pattern plates found in Weori excavations at Gyuam-myeon, Buyeo. This study examines the formative features of the Baekjae pattern plates through analysis of the excavation conditions and functions in government offices and the pattern analysis of Baekjae pattern plate. In addition, this study attempts to interpret the illustration of the Baekjae pattern plate from a Taoist perspective.
The patterns of this plate can be categorized into two main groups following the Samsanmun(three mountains), which is the central connection pattern, and the hwamun(flower). The two sansumunjeon(mountain and water) and two gwishinmunjeon(spirits) connected by the samsanmun compose one set, while the bannyongmunjeon(dragon), bonghwangmunjeon(pheonix), yeonhwamunjeon (lotus flower) and yeonhwawaunmunjeon form the edges in the newly introduced yeonjumun.
While the patterns connected by the samsan have relatively ancient ceremonial factors, the combinations connected to the flowers through the yeonjumun, which did not appear in Baekjae art could be seen as a new pattern type. Yeonjumun were originally used as patterns for textiles and they are the origin for connecting different pattern plates. It started in the countries bordering western China and passed through the Northern Qi Shu and Shu of China and it was probably related to the new foreign affair policies of King Wideok to the Northern Qi Shu.
Yeonjumun, which never before appeared in Baekjae patterns, were originally used as patterns for textiles and it was the source that connected various patterns.
Therefore, the Baekjae pattern plates of Weori do not exist individually, but follows a general organic flow. When considering the features of Byeokjeon, it is presumed that they were manufactured for a certain purpose. Furthermore, when considering the illustrative characteristic of each pattern with strong Taoist contents, it may be assumed that it was used in Buddhist related properties. There is a high possibility that they were used in buildings related to tombs and Taoism. Though we need to think more about the actual use of the pattern plates, taking into consideration of the contents of the pattern and its composition or production level, we can presume that it was made for the nation or the king’s court.
