초록

본고는 1930년대 후반, 한반도 북부 모더니즘 동인지 『단층』과 『맥』 동인들의 활동과 시학의 의의를 1930년대 후반 시문학의 장에서 논의하고, 나아가 남북한 시문학사에서 이 시기 모더니즘의 성과를 재고하고자 한 연구이다. 한국 모더니즘은 1930년대 초·중반 경성 중심의 모더니즘이 집중 연구되어 왔다. 그러나 1930년대 중반이 지나면서 모더니즘은 지역적으로, 경향적으로 광범하고 다양하게 확장되었는데, 이런 양상을 동인지 『단층』(1937)과 『맥』(1938)에서 발견할 수 있었다. 문학사에서 『단층』은 소설을 중심으로 심리주의적 경향에 대한 연구가 주로 이루어져 왔는데, 본 연구에서는 기존 연구에서 평가받지 못한 『단층』 소재 시 작품에 주목하여 시작품들 역시 소설과 마찬가지로 문학의식의 측면에서 불안한 내면과 우울 등 심리주의적 경향을 공유하면서, 한편으론 이상(李箱)이나 『삼사문학』이 추구했던 주지적이고 추상적이며, 초현실적인 시세계를 만들고, 다양한 시 형식을 실험하는 모더니즘의 특성이 있음을 밝혔다. 특히 김조규와 함께 동인으로 활동했던 모더니스트 양운한을 처음으로 소개, 평가하여 모더니즘의 외연을 확장하였다. 『맥』은 문학사에서 초현실주의 동인지로 평가되었던 잡지인데, 이들이 3집 이후 점진적으로 자신들의 지향을 모더니즘 예술운동의 방향으로 나아갔음을 알 수 있었다. 특히 본 연구에서는 최근 발굴된 『맥』 5집의 작품들을 최초로 다루었는데, 5집을 통해 예술운동과 정치성을 지향하면서 시학으로서의 포에지를 추구했던, 모더니즘 동인지로서의 『맥』의 성격과 문학사적 위상을 보다 확실하게 이해할 수 있었다. 그리고 문학사적으로는 『단층』과 『맥』의 성과가 1930년대 후반 시문학의 새로운 주체를 모색하던 임화, 김광균, 김기림 등의 신세대론에 대한 적극적인 응답이었음을 고찰했다. 즉 당대 문학 장의 변화에 대한 적극적 대응으로써 모더니즘의 새로운 시정신-포에지와 예술의 실천성이 한반도 북부지역의 동인들에 의해 가장 적극적이고 실천적으로 이루어진 것으로 평가할 수 있었다. 결론적으로 본 연구를 통해 1930년대 후반 한반도 북부지역을 중심으로 한 모더니즘의 성과와 그 역사성을 규명할 수 있었고, 나아가 남북한 시문학사에서의 문학사적 위상과 의의를 재고할 수 있었다.

영어초록

This paper is a study to discuss the significance of poetry and the activities of the northern modernist magazines La Dislocation and Maek in the field of poetry literature in the late 1930s, and furthermore to reconsider the achievements of modernism in the poetry history of North and South Korea. Modernism in Korea has been intensively studied in the early and mid 1930s centered on Gyeong-seong. However, as the mid-1930s passed, modernism expanded regionally and in a wide variety of ways, and this aspect can be found in magazines La Dislocation(1937) and Maek(1938). In the history of literature La Dislocation has been mainly focused on psychological tendency of novels. In this study, it was revealed that the poems in La Dislocation have psychological tendencies such as anxiety and depression in terms of literary consciousness. And on the other hand, it was examined that there is a characteristic of modernism that creates the intellectual, abstract, and surreal world of poetry pursued by Lee Sang (李箱) and Three Four Literature. In particular, this study expanded the scope of modernism by introducing and evaluating for the first time the modernist Yang Woon-han. Maek was evaluated as a surrealist Magazine in the history of literature, it can be seen that they gradually moved toward the modernist art movement after their 3rd album. In particular, this study dealt with the recently discovered works of the 5th volume of Maek for the first time, and it was possible to more clearly identify the character and literary status of Maek as a modernist magazine oriented toward artistic movement and politics. Also, in terms of literary history, the results of La Dislocation and Maek were considered as an active response to the new generation theory of Im hwa, Kim Kwang-gyun, and Kim Ki-rim, who were seeking a new subject in poetry literature in the late 1930s. In other words, it can be evaluated that the active response to the changes in the literary field of the time was most actively and practically made by the people of the northern region of the Korean Peninsula, centering on modernism. In conclusion, through this study, it was possible to identify the achievements and historicity of modernism centered on the northern part of the Korean Peninsula in the late 1930s, and furthermore, it was possible to reconsider the status and significance of literature in the poetry history of North and South Korea.
