말과 서사, 언어 간 교환 체계 성립과 근대어의 증식-<대한민보>의 언어정리사업과 소설을 중심으로 (A Study on Establishment of the Exchange System among Words, Narrative, and Language and the Increase in Modern Language: Focus on Language Readjustment and Novels in Daehanminbo)

초록

본고는 <대한민보>(1909.6.2.-1910.8.31)의 언어정리사업란 및 연재소설의 일부를 대상으로 하여 황제권이 붕괴되고 통감정치가 시행되는 상황에서 <대한민보>가 어떻게 주체적으로 담론공간을 전유하고 자기서사를 확장해 나갔는지 살펴보는 것을 목적으로 한다.
<대한민보>의 발행주체인 대한협회는 통감부가 주도하는 법, 정치, 경제 제도의 변화를 실정적인 것으로 받아들였고 그런 인식을 보여주는 난이 「신래성어문답」이다. 이것은 발행주체의 대다수가 과거 역관과 같은 중인층으로서 교통공간의 중심에 서 있었던 경험이나 갑오개혁과 대한제국 정부에 대항하는 쿠데타를 도모했던 경험을 갖고 있다는 것과 무관하지 않을 것이다. 소위 민족부르주아지 혹은 지사형 계몽지식인으로 불리는 담론주체와 구별되게 이들은 사회의 기능분화, 법치화, 관료제화를 근대의 토양으로 생각했다.
「신래성어문답」이 일본에서 들여온 근대적 법과 규칙의 안정화에 기여한 난이라고 한다면 「이훈각비」, 「명사집요」, 「사전연구초」는 기반으로 삼고 있는 세계에 대한 주체적 표현을 가능하도록하는 통사적 차원의 언어를 생산할 수 있게 하는 난이었다. 주어와 술어를 갖는 문장구조의 생산, 자연어 즉 말의 영역에 있던 고유어를 문학어로 재탄생시키는 일, 다양한 곡용어의 개발 등이 이 난들을 통해 수행되었다.
<대한민보>의 여러 소설들은 「신래성어문답」의 용어가 기반으로 하고 있던 세계를, 「이훈각비」, 「명사집요」, 「사전연구초」의 문장체계를 그 표현수단으로 해서 구체적이고 풍부하게 형상화하였다. 황제권의 붕괴로 중심없는 분화된 시점들이 산재하게 되자 서사적 기획은 주체가 스스로를 만들어가는 기획과 분간할 수 없을 만큼 깊은 관련이 있게 되었다. <대한민보>의 소설은 현실세계와 역학관계를 유지하면서 현실세계를 주체적으로 독해하고 흡수하여 소화한 것을 표현하고자 하였다. 때문에 현실세계와의 접촉과 교통은 중요한 것이었는데 이러한 역학관계가 1910년에 연재되었던 소설에 접어들어 깨지게 된다. 이 시기는 한‧일병합론이 구체화되고 식민화가 급속히 이루어지고 있던 때였기 때문에 소설을 통해 담론주체가 정치적 기획을 서사화하는 것이 점차 불가능해졌다. 1910년대 본격적으로 전개되는 자율적 문학관의 발달은 이와 같은 식민지적 특수성과 관련된 것이라고 할 수 있다.

영어초록

This article aimed at exploring the process of how Daehanminbo had an appropriation on a discoursive space to itself and expanded self-narrative while the power of emperor collapsed and the supervision politics was implemented. For this purpose, it focused on the series of language readjustment and some of novels published in the newspaper titled Daehanminbo(1909.6.2.-1910.8.31.).
Daehanhyuphoe, which was in charge of publishing Daehanminbo, accepted the change in legal, political and economic system led by the Japanese Residency-General as a positive one, and Shinlaesungeomundap is a good example of this. Most of members in Daehanhyuphoe were from the middle class such as interpreters had experienced being in the transportation center or being one of the members who had planned a coup against Korean government or conducted the Gabo Reform of 1894. Thus, their experience could be related to the series, Shinlaesungeomundap. Comparing to the discourse subject who were called as national bourgeoisie or patriotic enlightenment intellectuals, they thought the differentiation of function in society, rule of law and bureaucratization as a common ground for modernity,Shinlaesungeomundap was a segment that contributed to the stabilization of modern law and legislations brought from Japan, whereas Inhungakbi, Myungsajibyo, and sajeonyeongucho were segmentes for producing the language at the syntactic level. that enabled the subjective expression on the world. These segments conducted a variety of activities: production of sentence structures with subjects and predicates, rebirth of traditional language or native words which were in the fields of words as literature language, and development a variety of final consonants.
Many novels published in Daehanminbo formed the concrete and affluent world that was a basis for the terms in Shinlaesungeomundap by using the sentenced structures in Inhungakbi, Myungsajibyo, and sajeinyeongucho. As acentric differentiated point of views became scattered due to the collapse of the power of emperor, narrative planning became relevant to the planning that the subject had been forming. And the distinction between them was hard to distinguish. A series of novels in Daehanminbo tried to express the real world which they had read and absorbed on their own, remaining in a relationship of dynamics. Therefore, contacts and communication with the real world were important. This relationship of dynamics, however, was broken when it reached to the series of novels published in 1910. This period was when annexation of Korea-Japan became actualized and Korea was rapidly colonized. Due to this time-based characteristic, it became impossible for discoursive subjects to narrate the political planning through novels. A development of autonomous point of view in literature, which was developed in 1910s, was related to the colonial characteristics.
