Equine laminitis is a systemic disorder resulting in extremely pain and anatomical changes pedal bones, and hence has major welfare implications. A Halflinger mare had chronic laminitis. She had a strong appetite and was relatively heavy. Her hooves condition was poor, and recovery was slow even with good hooves care. After being diagnosed with laminitis, grass feed was fed as the main feed rather than concentrated feed, and horseback riding was strictly prohibited. The hooves were wrapped in soft cotton to cushion them, and the bedding was also thickly laid. Since the horse could not be used for horseback riding practice, it was used for the health management practice. One day, 20 students each injected 1mL of saline solution intravenously and collected 1mL of blood from the teaching-horse, so they were pricked with needles a total of 40 times. The next morning, laminitis recurred with severe lame and fever in the hooves. The lame grade was about 4/5(AAEP). The horse was injected with an analgesic and anti-inflammatory drug, but when it did not work, an in-depth precise diagnosis such as X-RAY and differential diagnosis were performed. When the symptoms still did not improve, euthanasia was requested through a clinical veterinarian. The cause of this relapse of laminitis is thought to be acute stress from blood collection and injection practice the day before, and it was confirmed that even a 20-person practice day can be stressful. In addition, it was confirmed that even well-managed laminitis can relapse due to a single stress. Furthermore, it was revealed that careful stress management is most important in horses with chronic laminitis.
