지역역사문화자원 캐릭터 활성화를 위한 연구 - 공주 무령왕릉 출토 石獸를 중심으로 - (A study on for revitalization of characters in the local historical and cultural resources - focusing on the Stone Animal Guardians excavated in the Tomb of King Muryeong in Gongju-)

초록

이 글에서는 지역역사문화자원 캐릭터 활성화 측면에서 공주 무령왕릉에서 출토된 석수를 중심으로 논의를 전개하였다. 지역역사문화자원 캐릭터 활성화 과정에서의 역사왜곡을 피하기 위하여 먼저 이들이 가지고 있는 역사적인 가치와 배경을 살펴보았으며, 이를 통하여 석수가 가지고 있는 ‘파벽의 수호신’이라는 이미지를 확인할 수 있었다.
지역역사문화자원 캐릭터는 대중들이 지역의 역사와 문화에 공감할 수 있는 매개체 역할을 수행해야 하며, 다양한 활용이 가능한 문화상품이다. 이러한 관점에서 일본에서는 이른 시기부터 지역역사문화자원에 기반한 캐릭터 산업이 활성화되었으며, 본 연구의 배경이 되는 공주 역시 최근 지역역사문화자원 캐릭터 활성화를 시작하였다.
하지만 지역의 역사와 문화를 배경으로 전개되어야 할 지역역사문화자원 캐릭터임에도 불구하고 외형적 모티프와 표상만을 캐릭터 구성에 활용한 것은 지적할만한 부분이다. 역사적인 유물은 그 자체로 캐릭터성을 가지고 있기 때문에 2, 3차 재창작을 통한 역사적 가치의 훼손은 지양해야 한다. 또한 역사문화자원을 기반으로 한 캐릭터 활성화를 위해서는 역사적 가치(이미지) 발굴과 함께 대중들과의 소통을 위한 스토리텔링 모델링이 선행되어야 한다. 마지막으로 ‘지킨다’라는 이미지의 석수를 활용한 공공디자인 예시들은 지역정체성과 함께 다양한 문화상품으로의 역할이 기대되는 부분이다.

영어초록

This study developed discussions, focusing on the Stone Animal Guardians excavated in the Tomb of King Muryeong in Gongju in terms of the revitalization of characters in the local historical and cultural resources. To avoid historical distortions in the process of revitalization of characters in the local historical and cultural resources, this study first investigated their historical values and backgrounds and could find the Stone Animal Guardians’ image as “crippled guardians” through this.
Characters in the local historical and cultural resources should serve as media by which the public can sympathize with the history and culture of the region and are cultural products that can be utilized in various ways. In this sense, in Japan, the character business based on the local historical and cultural resources from an early period has been revitalized, and Gongju, the background of this study, too, recently, started the revitalization of its characters in the local historical and cultural resources.
However, despite they are characters in the local historical and cultural resources, which should be developed with the history and culture of the region as the background, it is necessary to point out that the outward motifs and symbols only were utilized in the composition of the characters. Since historical relics have characters’ qualities themselves, the damage of historical values through the 2nd and 3rd recreation should be avoided.
In addition, in order to revitalize characters based on historical and cultural resources, it is necessary to develop a storytelling model for communication with the public along with discovering historical values(images). Lastly, it is expected that the examples of public designs utilizing the Stone Animal Guardians with the image of ‘guarding’ would serve as cultural products along with the local identity.
