진안 睡仙樓를 통해 본 道家的 자연관과 풍류문화 (A Study on the Poongryu and Taoist Views on Nature through Soosun-ru in Jinan-Gun)

초록

전라북도 진안군 마령면에 위치한 수선루의 장소성 및 조영특성을 분석하여 누정문화에 투영된 도가적 자연관과 풍류문화를 구명하기 위한 연구 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 수선루는 1686년(숙종 12년) 연안 송씨 사형제가 섬진강 상류 오원천변 암굴 위에 道義를 연마하고 산수경관을 즐기기 위해 조성하였는데, 조망-은신처이론에 충실한 절묘한 승경처에 자리하고 있다. 둘째, 입지적으로 수선루 입구에 새긴 ‘睡仙樓 洞門’, 그리고 루가 자리한 암벽 동굴(洞天), 거북재, 오원천의 ‘龜沼라는 명칭(거북은 장수, 月宮과 龍宮, 海中 仙界를 오가는 상징동물) 등에서 仙界의 염원을 담은 신선경의 경관짜임을 은유하게 된다. 셋째, 수선루는 駬山九曲의 제2곡으로 회자되며, 오원천 하류의 四仙臺와 연계되는 등 17～18세기 성리학적 세계관을 반영 한 풍류미학을 발견하게 된다. 넷째, ‘신선이 자는 누’란 뜻의 수선루는 ‘낮잠 풍류’와 관련되는데, ‘睡仙’에 담긴 의미는 莊子의 ‘胡蝶夢’과 일맥상통하는 ‘逍遙遊’의 개념으로 ‘道와 하나가 된 상태에서 유유자적하는 자유의 경지’를 표출하고 있다. 다섯째, 수선루는 중국 진나라 협서성에서 은거한 商山四皓의 기상을 은유적으로 담아내고 있는데, 세상의 근심걱정을 잊어버리기 위해 약초 캐고 바둑 두는 은일사상과 遊와 息의 풍류문화를 추적할 수 있다. 특히, 풍류를 구성하는 본질적 요소가 ‘자연 친화’ 그리고 ‘자유로움’이라 할 때 ‘수선루’는 신선경의 경관짜임을 이룬 자연친화적 누정이 되며 ‘누정에서의 잠’은 생명사상이 깃든 가장 자유스러운 풍류(山水流+心流)미학 체험 행위가 된다.

영어초록

The objective of study lies in identifying Taoist views on Nature as well as the traits of the Poongryu culture(風流) that are deeply figured into Korea's Nujung(pavilion) culture by analytically getting closer to the geomantic environs and construction characteristics of the Soosun-ru(睡仙樓) located in Maryung-myun, Jinan-gun, the results of which are outlined below: First, in view of its geomantic environs, Soosun-ru is located in a superb ‘fairyland' strictly in compliance with the concept of ‘escape and reliance' depending on a non-omnipresent placement at the streamside of Ohwon in the upper river of Seomjinkang. It was constructed by four brothers in the Song family in 1686 in an attempt to push themselves toward Taoism and enjoy the beautiful scenery. Second, in terms of the nomenclature found at, for example, the Soosun-ru Dongmun(睡仙樓洞門), Dongcheon(洞天) in relation to the pavilion, and the Guso(龜沼) in relation to the Ohwon stream, the implicit meaning for the word turtle was as a symbolic animal representing longevity and a mysterious liaison bridging the palaces of the Moon and the Sea, epitomizing the deep desire of Koreans to reach the unknown fairylands. Third, Soosun-ru correlates with Gugok(九曲) culture, a key element in the landscaping matrix constituting Poongryu culture as a result of to its unparalleled grandeur in landscaping, which was great enough to be highly praised in Isan-gugok's 2nd poem. Specifically, aesthetic beauty was long cherished in the Chosun Dynasty and in the 17th and 18th centuries, blending with the Confucian world-view as a target of Poongryu. Fourth, Soosun-ru, which literally refers to an pavilion for Sinsun(神仙) to take a nap, relates to the so-called ‘napping Poongryu', further connecting it to Chuangtzu's ‘Hojeop-mong(胡蝶夢)' and staying consistent with the philosophy of ‘Soyoyu(逍遙遊)' in pursuit of an idyllic and unbound lifestyle setting, free from tenacity and obsession over worldly cares and things. Fifth, regarding the investigation of the literature, The idea of Soosun-ru stems from ‘Sangsan-saho(商山四皓)’ in the Jin Dynasty of China, who lived their elegant lives away from the mundane world with go-games and the occasional hunting for herbs in mountains, commonly interpolated as the epitome of Poongryu culture. In light of the fundamental features of Poongryu involving placing much weight on maintaining an ‘eco-friendly' and ‘freedom-pursuing' manner, Soosun-ru is truly fit to be a showcase architecture having a landscape aesthetic tinted with Taoist thought while napping or relaxing in a heavenly pavilion provides the concept of the freest and truest sense of Poongryu which is to enjoy the sense of one's life spirit.
