경학연구에 대한 성서비평 방법론 활용 연구 (A study on the utilization of the Bible criticism methodology to studies on Chinese classics of Confucianism)

초록

본고는 경학 연구에 성서비평 방법론의 활용 가능성을 모색하였다. 『성서』는 동양의 경전과 유사한 성격을 지닌다. 따라서 성서비평의 다양한 형태를 논한 성서비평 방법론은 경학연구에 시사하는 바가 크다.
현대 한국의 경학 연구는 직접적인 경전 연구가 아닌 메타비평인 경학론 연구가 주류를 있다. 연구자들은 주로 경학론의 우열을 논하는 평가자의 역할만을 수행하거나 그들의 사상적 경향을 밝히는데 치중하였다. 그러다보니 연구대상이 활용한 연구방법의 치밀성이나 정확성 검증에 소홀히 하였다. 앞으로의 경학 연구가 심화되기 위해서는 연구대상이 활용한 연구방법의 성격을 구명하고, 그 방법이 파생시킨 오류를 점검할 수 있는 다양한 분석과 검증 방법이 필요하다. 성서비평 방법론은 바로 이러한 면에서 도움을 줄 수 있다.
현대의 성서비평 방법론은 비평에 있어서 역사적 접근이나 문학적 접근이 가진 차이를 명백하게 설명해준다. 본문의 의미를 “배후에서” 발견하고자 한다면 그것은 역사적 방법이고 “안에서” 혹은 “전면에서” 발견하고자 한다면 그것은 문학적 방법이다. 역사적 접근이 주도하던 현대 성서비평은 양자가 결합된 접근을 하고 있다. 이러한 성서비평 방법에 대한 논의는 곧바로 경학연구에 활용하여 경학 연구자와 그 자료가 지닌 연구 방법의 성격을 규정하기에도 용이하다.
성서비평 방법론에 비추어 전통적 경학연구자들의 연구 방법을 살펴보면, 표면적으로는 성서비평 방법에서 본문의 기원과 역사적 배경 등을 밝히는 역사적 접근과 유사한 방법을 사용하였으나 난관에 부딪히면 문학적 접근이라고 할 수 있는 사변적인 분석을 통하여 본문 안에서 문제 해결을 시도한다. 현대의 경학연구자들은 이러한 전통적 경학연구자들의 연구 방법적 특성을 간파하고, 고금을 아우르는 다양한 시점에서 접근해야 한다.
성서비평 방법론을 통한 경학의 이해와 연구는 우리가 연구대상 혹은 연구자 자신의 논리에 빠져 객관성을 상실하게 되는 오류를 줄여 줄 것이다. 또한 이제 우리는 경학 연구의 심화를 위해서 경학론 연구에만 매달리지 말고 그 성취를 바탕으로 직접 경전을 연구하는 경학연구로 재진입하여야 할 것이다.

영어초록

This thesis found possibilities to utilize the Bible criticism methodology to studies on Chinese classics of Confucianism. 『The Bible』 has characteristics similar to scriptures of the East. Therefore, the Bible criticism methodology which discussed about various forms of the Bible criticism has lots of implications.
Main studies on scriptures of modern Korea are studies on scripture theory, meta criticism, not direct studies on scriptures. Researchers mainly played only role of appraiser who discusses about the merits of scripture theory or was biased to investigate their ideological tendency. Therefore, they were neglected to verify minuteness or accuracy of studying method utilizing the object. To deepen following studies on scriptures, it’s necessary to investigate characteristics of studying method utilizing the object and use various analyses and verification, which can examine errors derived by the method. The Bible criticism methodology can be helpful from the angle.
The bible criticism methodology of modern times explains differences of historical approach or literary approach for the criticism clearly. If intending the meaning of main body “behind”, it is a historic method, And, if intending to discover it “inside” or “in front side”, it is a literary method. The Bible criticism of modern times, led by historic approach, takes the approach combined by two parties. The discussion about the Bible criticism method can be easily utilized to studies on scriptures and investigate characteristics of studying method that researcher of scriptures and the materials have.
If examining studying method of traditional scripture researchers from an angle of the Bible criticism methodology, it used the method similar to historical approach which investigates the origin, historic background, etc. of main body in the Bible criticism method superficially. But, it tries to solve problems in the main body through the speculative method which can be a literary approach in difficulties. Sculpture researchers of modern times must penetrate characteristics of studying method of traditional sculpture researchers and approach from various angles of all times.
The understanding and study on sculptures by the Bible criticism methodology will reduce errors that objectivity is lost after studying object or researcher sticks to their theory. In addition, we must reenter direct studies on sculptures based on the achievement without sticking to the studies on sculpture theory so as to deepen studies on sculptures.
