산업디자인 방법론에 반영된 독일 공학설계방법론의 영향 (Influence of German engineering methodologies as reflected in industrial design methodology)

초록

대부분의 기술적 제품들은 산업적 생산을 전제로 개발되기 때문에 그것의 디자인 및 기구 설계과정에는 체계적인 방법론이필요하다. 디자인과정을 위한 체계적 방법론은 공학적 설계방법론에서 받은 영향이 큰 것으로 보인다. 따라서 본 연구는 기술적 제품개발을 위한 체계적 디자인 방법론 형성에 중요한기인으로 작용한 공학적 설계방법론의 발전 과정을 고찰하는데 그 목적이 있다. 특히 1950년대 이후 기술적 제품의 개발및 디자인에 있어 모범적 전형을 형성한 독일의 방법론의 발전과 그것이 산업디자인 방법론에 미친 영향에 중심을 두어,선행된 연구 및 문헌조사를 중심으로 연구를 진행하였다. 연구의 결과 1990년대 이전까지 개발된 공학적 설계 방법론이나산업디자인 방법론을 비교해보면 그 개념적 내용이나 구조적흐름이 거의 동일한 것을 발견할 수 있는데, 이는 결국 제품개발이라는 큰 틀 아래에서 공학적 설계와 디자인의 개발이사회가 요구하는 역할을 서로 상보적으로 수행하였기 때문이다. 특히 선형성의 순차적 구조는 이 시기 방법론의 전형적인구조이며, 이는 산업화 시대의 요구사항에 대응하기 위한 것으로 보인다. 그러나 1990년대 이후 진행된 다변적 사회로의변화는 제품의 전형성 및 범주까지도 변화시켰으며, 제품 개발에 있어서도 공학계의 MVM 모델이나 디자인계의 디자인적 사고(Design Thinking) 등 이전과는 다른 전형으로 발전되어 나타나고 있다. 따라서 방법론의 발전은 시대의 변화와 사회적 요구사항의 반영이라 할 수 있으며, 이에 따른 향후 과제는 1990년대 이후의 방법론들에 대한 조명과 아울러 디자인중심의 통합적 방법론의 개발에 대한 연구로 진행되어야 할것이다.

영어초록

A systematic methodology is needed in designing andengineering technological products since most of them aredeveloped for industrial production. Such methodology isalso essential in the field of industrial design. The systematicmethodology used for design processes is largely influencedby engineering design methodology. For this reason, thepurpose of this paper is to study how the engineering designmethodology was developed, which played an importantrole in establishment of the systematic design methodologyfor technological product development. Previouslyconducted researches and various documents were studiedwith a focus on the development of methodologies inGerman-speaking countries in particular, since they areconsidered to be role model countries for technologicalproduct development and design. This study found thatthe concept and structural flow of the engineering designmethodology developed before 1990’s and the industrialdesign methodology are almost identical because the twodesign methodologies were fulfilling the role that the societydemanded in a mutually-supporting way within the largerframework of product design. The consecutive structureof linearity, in particular, was a structure typical amongthe methodologies used at that time, which seems to bein response to the demand of the industrialization era.
However, the typicality and scope of a product changedas the society shifted toward a more diversified one after1990’s. The arena of product development also shows anew trend such as the MVM model in the engineeringindustry or the Design Thinking in the design industry.
This illustrates how the development of a methodologyreflects the changes of the time and the demands of thecontemporary society, and the future study will need tofocus the development of a design-oriented integratedmethodology in addition to highlighting the post-90’smethodologies.
