초록

성종(成宗)대는 조선이 유교 사회로서 안정되어가던 시기였다. 여러 차례의 수정을 거친 <경국대전>이 성종대에 이르러 비로소 완성된 형태를 갖추었음도 불구하고, 이 시기가 유교 이념에 입각한 통치 질서의 확립에 기점이 되는 시기라는 것을 보여주는 단서이기도 하다. ‘남녀상열지사’의 의미는 단순히 유교적 상황에 부합하는 이성간의 음란한 애정의 문제에 집중한 것이 아니라 언어, 정치, 사회상, 음악적 적합성 등 다각도로 논의되고 분석해야 한다는 사실을 찾을 수 있다.
성종은 악(樂)의 중요성을 강조하여 음률을 깨우친 관리 양성의 중요성을 강조하였다. 악보는 전조의 것을 수용하고 가사만 바꾸었다는 사실을 상기한다면 조선 초기에 제기되었던 남녀상열 시비의 대상은 가사, 즉 시에 국한되었던 것으로 보는 경향도 있지만, ‘남녀상열’에 대한 논의는 선초 악장 창작시기보다 후대에 일어난 것이기 때문에 시비의 대상이 ‘가사’에 국한된 것이라고 단정할 수는 없다. 본고에서는 ‘남녀상열지사’의 본래의 출현에 중점을 두고 서술하고자 하였다.
특히 ‘남녀상열론’이 단순히 남녀의 음란한 이야기가 아니라 현실의 정치와 음악, 음악을 통한 정치적 연계, 예와 관계를 나타낸 점에 의미를 두고 있다. 남녀상열론의 출현은 가사의 저열함을 지칭하기 보다는 이속(俚俗)의 풍습이 궁중례에 남아있음을 의식한 것이다. 이를 통해 성종의 인식 변화와 세계관을 살필 수 있었다. 성종은 음악이 지닌 효용성과 긍정적 의미에 대해 적극적으로 활용하고자 했다. 성종은 예(禮)와 악(樂)의 균형적인 정비가 이루어짐으로써, 조선전기 음악문화의 전성기를 맞이할 수 있게 되었다.

영어초록

The reign of King Seongjong was a time when Joseon became stable as a Confucian society. Despite the fact that "Gyeongguk Daejeon(경국대전)," which had been revised several times, was completed only after the time of King Seongjong's reign, it is also a clue that shows that this period is the starting point for the establishment of a ruling order based on Confucian ideology. It can be found that the meaning of the "Namnyeosangyeoljisa(男女相悅之詞)" should be discussed and analyzed in various ways, including language, politics, social and musical suitability, rather than simply focusing on the problem of lewd affection between the opposite sex that conforms to the Confucian situation.
King Seongjong emphasized the importance of fostering management who learned the notes by emphasizing the importance of Ak(樂). Recalling the fact that the music sheet was used to accommodate the ancestral rites and only changed the lyrics, it is also believed that the subject of the dispute between Namnyeosangyeol(男女相悅), which was raised in the early Joseon Dynasty, was limited to the lyrics, or poetry.

In particular, it is meaningful that "Namnyeosangyeollon(남녀상열론)" is not just a lewd story of men and women, but rather a representation of the politics of reality, political links through music, and examples and relationships. Rather than referring to the vulgarity of the lyrics, the emergence of "the theory of succession" was conscious of the fact that the custom of "the succession" remained at the royal feast. Through this, we were able to examine the changes in Sungjong's perception and worldview. Sungjong actively tried to utilize the musical's usefulness and positive meaning. With the balanced readjustment of manners and music, King Seongjong was able to reach the peak of the music culture during the early Joseon Dynasty.
