박세당의 『대학 사변록』 편차고정(編次考訂)에 관한 연구 (A Study on Park Se-dang's Restructuring of『Daehak Sabyeonron』)

초록

본 연구는 박세당의 『대학 사변록(大學 思辨錄)』편차고정(編次考訂)에 관한 것이다. 박세당이『대학장구』의 분장체계에 대해 비판한 내용을 알아보고, 『대학 사변록』의 편차고정 기준과 편차에 대해 자세히 살피겠다. 그리고 의의와 한계점을 논하고자 한다.
박세당은 『대학장구』의 분장체계는 앞뒤 문장의 내용이 통하지 않으며, 전(傳)3장의 경전 인용 형식이 전1, 2장과 다르다고 하였다. 또한 전7〜10장은 장의 요지가 2개로 설정되어 불분명하며, 치국과 평천하는 같은 도로써 얻을 수 있기 때문에 같은 내용으로 보아야 하나 그렇지 않다고 비판하였다.
따라서 기준을 세워 편차를 고정하였는데, 문맥이 통하지 않는 부분은 문의(文義)를 고려하여 연결성을 중시하였고, 체계가 일률적이지 않는 부분은 통일성의 원칙을 적용하였다. 또한 장의 요지는 명확성을 중시하였으며, 이에 따라 편차를 고정하여 초학자들의 실천을 용이하게 하였다.
박세당은 『대학 사변록』 전2, 3, 8, 9, 10장에서 자신이 정한 기준에 따라 편차를 고정하였는데, 그 의의는 다음과 같다. 첫째,『대학』의 경문과 전문을 치밀하게 분석하여 절대적인 권위를 가진 『대학장구』의 편차를 과감하게 개정함으로써, 독자적인 『대학』 해석의 길을 열어주었다. 둘째, 편차고정의 기준을 정하고 『대학』의 내용, 체계, 장의 특성에 따라 강조하는 기준을 다르게 적용함으로써, 전문 각 장의 특성을 한층 더 부각시켰다. 셋째, 장과 차서를 명확히 하여 초학자들이 이해하기 쉽게 함으로써 하학 중시의 경전해석 태도를 보여주었다. 넷째, 경전은 여러 각도에서 해석될 수 있다는 경전해석의 다양성을 긍정하였다.
이러한 의의에도 불구하고 한계점도 있다. 하나의 장은 하나의 요지로 구성해야 한다고 하였으나, 치국과 평천하를 같은 장에 배열함으로써 이러한 원칙이 지켜지지 않았다. 또한 기본텍스트를 『대학장구』로 하여 장과 차서를 배열함으로써 주자의 문제점을 극복하지 못했으며, 체계적인 고증을 통해 새로운『대학』의 체계를 완전하게 수립하지는 못하였다.

영어초록

This study is to examine a Park Se-dang's restructuring(編次考訂) of『Daehak Sabyeonron(大學 思辨錄)』. We will look into ‘Park Se-dang’s criticism of the makeup system of 『Daehakjanggu』 and examine the criteria and deviations of the deviation process of 『Daehak Sabyeonron』. And I would like to discuss its significance and limitations.
As for the structure of『Daehakjanggu』, Park Se-dang criticized that its sentences were not coherent, the system of quoting scriptures in Jeon(傳) Chapter 3 was different from that of Jeon Chapter 1 and 2. The main points from Jeon Chapter 7 to 10 were two, which made them unclear, and that ruling a nation and ruling the world were not considered as the same even though they could be accomplished through the same Tao.
Accordingly, he restructured it based on clear criteria, put emphasis on coherence by considering the meanings of the writing in the part where the context was not comprehensible, and regarding the part where the system was not standardized, he added unity by applying the same principle. In addition, he regarded clarity as important with respect to the main point of a chapter, and therefore restructured it and helped beginning learners practice it more easily.
Park Se-dang restructured Jeon Chapter 2, 3, 8, 9, and 10 of『Daehak Sabyeonron』following the standards he had set, and it has some significance. First, by carefully analyzing 『Daehak』, the deviation was boldly fixed, and by revising 『Daehakjanggu』, which has absolute authority, it opened the way for its own interpretation of 『Daehak』.
He showed the attitude of interpreting scriptures focusing on beginning learners to help them understand it by restructuring it while taking the context into consideration, opened the way to the independent interpretation of 『Daehak』. Second, the characteristics of each specialized chapter were further highlighted by setting the criteria for the deviation curriculum and applying differently according to the contents, system, and chapter characteristics of the 『Daehak』. Third, by clarifying the chapters and books, it was easy for first-time scholars to understand, showing the attitude of the scripture stone of the late school Jungsi. Fourth, acknowledged the diversity in the interpretation of scriptures that scriptures could be interpreted from various angles.
In spite of these meanings, there were limits, too. It is regrettable that he argued that one chapter should consist of one main point, but he didn't always abide by this principle and he put ruling a nation and governing the world in the same chapter. In addition, the zhu-xi’s problems could not be overcome by arranging chapters and books using the basic text as 『Daehakjanggu』, and the new 『Daehak』 system could not be fully established through systematic historical evidence.
