‘소리판’을 주제로 한 통합적 판소리 교수․학습 방법 연구 (The Integrated Teaching and Learning Method of Pansori)

초록

지금까지 판소리는 음악 교과를 비롯한 여러 교과에서 중요한 제재로 다루어졌음에도 불구하고 음악 교과에서는 판소리의 여러 요소 중 ‘소리’의 감상에 치우치는 수업을 하도록 교과서가 구성되고 다른 교과에서도 국어 교과는 노랫말, 사회 및 도덕 교과는 판소리의 문화적 가치 등 교과의 성격에 따라 일부 측면에만 초점을 맞춤으로써 판소리의 본질을 조명하고 감상 능력을 갖추도록 가르치지 못했다는 한계가 있었다.
본고는 기존의 단편적인 교과별 판소리 수업에서 벗어나서 판소리 문화의 본질에 기초하여 판소리를 지도할 수 있는 통합적인 교수․학습 방법을 구안하는 것을 목적으로 한다. 음악 교과를 중심으로 국어, 사회, 도덕, 미술, 체육 등 여러 교과의 판소리 관련 내용을 유기적으로 연관 지어 교과 간 통합을 시도하였으며, 동시에 음악 교과 내에서 활동, 이해, 생활화의 대영역을 통합하고 활동 영역 내에서도 가창, 기악, 감상, 창작 활동을 통합하도록 영역 간 통합을 구상하였다.
판소리의 통합적 교수․학습과 관련한 본 연구를 진행한 이유는 20세기 후반기 이후 판소리 문화가 생동감을 잃고 정체되고 있는 원인을 판소리 향유가 일반 대중보다는 소수의 청중에 의해서만 이루어지고 있는 현실적 한계에서 찾을 수 있다고 보았기 때문이다. 오늘날 판소리가 살아있는 문화로 거듭나기 위해서는 새로운 작품을 창작하고 실력 있는 명창을 다수 육성하는 것도 중요하지만 그에 못지않게 판소리를 일상생활 속에서 듣고 즐기며 전승에 적극적으로 관여할 수 있는 청중층을 확보하려는 노력도 필요하다.
학교 수업에 ‘소리판’에서 벌어지는 생동감 있는 판소리 공연문화의 특성을 반영하기 위하여 ‘소리판 이해하기,’ ‘귀명창 되기,’ ‘명고수 따라잡기,’ ‘명창 따라잡기,’ ‘흥겨운 소리판 벌리기’를 소주제로 선정하였고, 교과 간 통합과 음악 교과 내의 각 영역 간 통합을 통한 구체적인 교수․학습 방법을 구상하였다. 특히 활동 영역 내에서도 가창, 감상, 기악, 창작의 여러 활동이 고루 이루어짐으로써 창자와 고수, 청중이 어우러지는 소리판을 체험하는 데에 주안점을 두었다.
공교육에서 청소년기에 판소리를 감상하고 즐길 수 있는 감수성을 갖게 하고 학교 밖에서도 판소리 문화를 적극적으로 수용하는 판소리의 생활화를 이루는 것은 매우 중요하다. 판소리를 조선 후기라고 하는 역사 속 한 시대의 문화로 학습시키지 않고 오늘날의 살아있는 문화로 이해시키고 그 특성을 가르칠 때 비로소 판소리가 정체되지 않고 ‘놀이로서의 특성과 삶의 방식’이라는 본질이 다음 세대에도 이어질 수 있을 것이다.

영어초록

The reason why Pansori Culture has lost its vitality and been stagnant since the latter part of the 20th century is the fact that it is enjoyed only by a small audience, rather than by the general public. Therefore, while it is still important to create new works and develop a large number of talented singers to help Pansori to be reborn as a living culture, it is also imperative to secure an audience who can listen to and enjoy Pansori in their daily lives, and who can become positively engaged in handing it down from generation to generation. But while Pansori has been treated as a pivotal educational material in many subjects, including music, music textbooks are so narrowly organized that music classes are only focusing on the appreciation of the ‘sori’ aspect out the many elements of Pansori, while some other aspects of Pansori may be focused on depending on what subject is being taught for example, lyrics are the focus in Korean class, while its cultural value is the focus in sociology and ethics classes. This approach has a limitation, in that it cannot teach students how to make sense of the essence of Pansori as a whole, and appreciate it in the correct manner.
To break from this fragmentary approach to Pansori education, this thesis attempts to lay a new foundation for Pansori education from a viewpoint of integration between subjects, so that Pansori education can be carried out in an integrated manner that combines the contents of Korean, sociology, ethics, arts, and gymnastics with one another, with music playing the leading role. First of all, attempting to reflect Pansori’s characteristic as a performance culture, since it is performed at a soripan, this thesis selects as a minor theme the need to understand soripan, to become a good listener, to find top-class drummers and singers, and to hold a soripan, and draws up methods of teaching and learning through the integration of each subject, and the integration of all aspects of pansori, including activity, understanding, and life embodiment, within the subject of music. In addition, it lays out some ideas by which students can experience a soripan where singers, drummers and the audience can harmonize together by means of promoting activities of creation such as singing, appreciation, instrumental music and creation within the learning activities.
If students can become sensitive enough to be able to appreciate Pansori in public education while they are adolescents, and if they can make Pansori a part of their daily lives outside of school in order to positively accommodate its culture, Pansori culture will stagnate no longer, and the essence of Pansori as the characteristics of a style and a way of life can be kept alive in the future.
