초록

There is a homogeneity between motifs of the creation myth of Jeju and of Genesis in the Bible which have different regional and cultural backgrounds and style of faith. They commonly consider the previous state of Creation of the world as ‘Mixed Chaos of all things’ and are the same in the aspect that creation continues to form a new order through the process of ‘separation and unity’. Next, they are in accord on Advent Motif of God which means help of the God of sky only makes it possible to change the incomplete order of the earth into the complete one. ‘Motif of quarrels between brothers’ is started from a challenge to the order of creation. In the Bible, it began with the challenge of Adam and Eve to God, and in Bonpuli, the son disobeyed his father Cheonjiwang’s wishes. This motif of quarrels between brothers explains that human sin leads to the breakup of relationship between the members of a family and it becomes a source of confusion in the world. There are differences of narrative messages although the motifs between Bonpuli and Genesis maintain a homogeneity. It is attributed to an intrinsic attribute of literary imagination and religious imagination in a narrative. Nevertheless, both genres have in common to aspire toward a new order. The language of the Creator can communicate with human language because of a homogeneity between the Creator and the rational mind of the human. Therefore, literary imagination is able to meet with religious imagination. This is indicative of a possibility that eventually God and human will unify.
