초록

Professor Kim Jung-bae(金貞培)'s Recognition of Korea and China's Northern History(한국과 중국의 북방사 인식) was held in April 2015 under the theme ‘Historic Recognition of Chinese and Korean over Northern History’ at the ‘Humanities Course with the Great Scholar’ led by Korea Research Foundation.
He is a former senior historian who retired in 2005 as a professor of the Dept. of Korean History at Korea University. For more than 50 years, he has been energetically conducting research on the history and culture of Old Joseon(古朝鮮) and Sam Han(三韓) and on the social image of the Korean bronze and iron era. The fusion of archeological knowledge of literature history and the application of theories of anthropology are regarded as his unique achievements in the study of ancient Korean history. It is a well-known fact that in the process, more than 100 research articles and various forms of research books have been published.
However, this book, published a year ago, contains his realistic experience gained or matched in the course of his research, rather than his direct study of historical facts. In other words, the attitudes of Chinese, Russian, and North Korean researchers towards the recognition of Korean history, and his process of responding to it, are well illustrated in this book. He has visited China, Russia and North Korea in the process of researching the ancient history of Korea and has long been in contact with researchers in that country. The process and the result appeared in a concentrated form in this book. Also, as expressed in his representation Northern history related, contact with them has become “my minimum obligation and responsibility to record".
His book consists of four chapters: Korea History and Northern History, Recognition of Balhae(渤海) History and Balhai Archaeologic Investigation, China's ‘Northeastern Process’ and the Goguryeo(高句麗) History Controversy, Three Kingdoms Unification Theory and the Age of North-South Nation Theory. In each chapter, the true stories he experienced in the research and support of Ancient Korean History are accurately described based on the records. In his research activities and administrative responsibilities of each institution, he clearly shows his effort to promote research in our academia.
It can be known that human relations with researchers from many northern countries such as North Korea, China, Russia, etc. have given a lot of help to carry out his task. I think that his relationship with foreign scholars must not only be his wealth, but also the wealth of our academia. It is from this point of view that the author himself felt the “minimum obligation and responsibility" recorded in the book.
