딥테크 스타트업에 대한 투자결정요인 연구: AHP 분석을 중심으로 (Study on Investment Decision Factors for Deep Tech Startups: Focusing on AHP Analysis)

디지털 전환 가속과 기술 혁신을 통한 기술 사업화가 글로벌 경제의 핵심 동력으로 부상함에 따라 딥테크 분야가 주목받고 있다. 인공지능(AI), 로보틱스, 양자 컴퓨팅, 바이오테크놀로지 등 첨단 과학기술을 기반으로 하는 혁신적 기술들이 다양한 산업 분야에서 파괴적 혁신을 일으키고 있으며, 이에 정부와 민간의 밀착적 협업을 통한 딥테크 스타트업 육성이 본격화되고 있다. 본 연구는 딥테크 스타트업의 개념을 명확히 정의하고, AHP 분석을 통해 투자 결정요인을 체계적으로 분석하여 투자 의사결정 기준을 제시한다. 특히, 기존 연구와 달리 딥테크 스타트업의 기술 혁신성, 시장 경쟁 환경, 정부 정책 지원 등 고유한 특성을 반영하여 투자결정요인을 도출하고, 투자 의사 결정에 미치는 영향을 분석하고자 한다.
본 연구에서는 첫째, 기존 문헌 연구를 통해 딥테크 산업의 특성과 기존 스타트업 투자 결정요인에 관한 선행 연구를 검토하여 딥테크 스타트업의 고유한 특성을 반영한 투자결정요인 ‘제품/서비스 특성’,‘창업자 특성’,‘시장 특성’,‘재무적 특성’,‘투자자 특성’ 상위항목 5가지를 도출하였다. 둘째, 딥테크 분야 투자심사역들을 대상으로 한 AHP 분석을 통해 딥테크 스타트업 투자결정요인이 일반 스타트업과는 달리, 창업팀보다는 창업자 자체의 산업 전문성과 기술적 역량을 중시한다는 점, 제품 등의 개발에 있어 고객 중심의 접근보다는 기술적 혁신성과 차별성을 중시한다는 점, 시장특성에 있어 빠른 시장 진입보다는 신시장 창출 가능성과 장기적 시장 파급력을 중시하였으며, iv) 네트워크와 협업관점에서는 시장 참여자 간 협업보다는 정부정책과의 부합성과 활용 정도를 중시하는 출자 사업목적 부합성을 중요한 투자결정요인으로 두고 있음을 확인하였다.
본 연구는 선행 연구들이 주로 투자자 관점의 투자결정요인을 도출한 반면, 딥테크 산업이라는 특정 산업으로 범위를 좁히고 정부 정책지원 관점을 포함해 딥테크 스타트업 투자결정요인에 관한 선도적 연구라는 점에서 이론적 기여가 있다. 또한, 본 연구 결과는 현재 벤처투자시장에서 혁신산업 분야에 가장 활발하게 투자를 집행하고 있는 액셀러레이터, 벤처캐피탈, 정책금융기관 등에 투자 전략과 딥테크 스타트업 육성 등 정책 및 전략 수립을 위한 기초자료로 활용 가능성을 제고하는 정책적 시사점을 도출하였다.

As digital transformation accelerates and technology commercialization through technological innovation emerges as a key driving force of the global economy, the deep tech sector is gaining attention. Innovative technologies based on cutting-edge science and technology such as artificial intelligence (AI), robotics, quantum computing, and biotechnology are causing disruptive innovation in various industries, and deep tech startups are being fostered in earnest through close collaboration between the government and the private sector. This study clearly defines the concept of deep tech startups and systematically analyzes investment decision-making factors through AHP analysis to present investment decision-making criteria. In particular, unlike previous studies, it aims to derive investment decision-making factors by reflecting the unique characteristics of deep tech startups such as technological innovation, market competition environment, and government policy support, and analyze the impact on investment decisions. In this study, first, through a review of existing literature, the characteristics of the deep tech industry and previous studies on existing startup investment decision-making factors were reviewed to derive the top five investment decision-making factors that reflect the unique characteristics of deep tech startups: ‘product/service characteristics’, ‘founder characteristics’, ‘market characteristics’, ‘financial characteristics’, and ‘investor characteristics’. Second, through AHP analysis targeting investment reviewers in the deep tech field, it was confirmed that the investment decision factors of deep tech startups, unlike general startups, value the industrial expertise and technical capabilities of the founders themselves rather than the founding team, value technological innovation and differentiation rather than a customer-centered approach in the development of products, etc., value the possibility of creating new markets and long-term market impact rather than rapid market entry in terms of market characteristics, and iv) from the perspective of network and collaboration, value the compatibility with government policies and the degree of utilization rather than collaboration among market participants, and place importance on the compatibility with the purpose of the investment business as an important investment decision factor. While previous studies mainly derived investment decision factors from the investor perspective, this study has theoretical contributions in that it narrows the scope to a specific industry called the deep tech industry and is a leading study on investment decision factors of deep tech startups by including the perspective of government policy support. In addition, the results of this study have derived policy implications that can be utilized as basic data for establishing policies and strategies, such as investment strategies and fostering deep-tech startups, for accelerators, venture capitalists, and policy finance institutions that are most actively investing in innovative industries in the current venture investment market.
