Analysis of Pre-education Needs for Educational Service Activities of Pre-service Teachers

Background/Objectives: The Ministry of Education allocated two credits to educational service activities in teaching professional process and demanded that systematic activities be carried out.
This study was conducted to find out the difficulties of pre-service teachers in educational service activities and to investigate the demand for prior education necessary for effective educational service activities. In order to achieve this purpose, survey methods and focus group interview were conducted.
Methods/Statistical analysis: The collected quantitative data were statistically analysed using the SPSS/WIN 24.0 program. Interview materials were categorized around words, events, and relationships that appeared repeatedly or in common, and classified words and topics went through the process of reading and reasoning transcribed data, and re-examined by research participants for the accuracy and validity of the analysis.
Findings: Based on the quantitative and qualitative research results, a pre-education model for educational service activities was presented. The contents of prior education can be largely divided into institution guidance and basic education as an instructor. In institutional guide, contents such as service period, role of educational service, and cooperation with staffs of institutions were introduced, and basic communication, basic teaching skills, and student guidance were presented as basic education as a teacher. For effective and systematic educational service activities, research on pre-education and education of during and after service should be continued for those who pre-service teachers.
