초록

Previous studies have reported that Namin(南人) and the Yeongnam School(嶺南學派) existed only in Gyeongsang Province, Hanyang, and Gyeonggi Province, but Kim Deuk-shin(金得臣), who studied and engaged in village and community activities in Goisan, Mokcheon, and Cheongan, Chungcheong, was definitely from Chungcheong Province. This study thus sets out to arrange his study and village and community activities and review the case of Hoseo Namin(湖西 南人) for the first time.
Kim Deuk-shin was from the Andong Kim family(安東金氏). His great-great-grandfather, Kim Seok, moved to Goisan, Chungcheong to escape the Gimyo Purge and expanded the influential scope of his family to Mokcheon and Cheongan based on the connections of his mother's family and his wife's family.
The academic backgrounds of Kim Deuk-shin's family were related to the Sarim Faction and the Yeongnam School. First, many members of his family were members of the Sarim Faction including the father and son, Kim Seok and Kim Chung-gap. Second, his family's connections with the Yeongnam School were based on the exchanges between Kim Chung-gap, who was Kim Deuk-shin's great-grandfather, and Lee Hwang and the literary figures under him. Kim Chung-gap's younger brother, Kim Je-gap, was also one of the literary figures under Lee Hwang. Kim Chi, who was Kim Deuk-shin's father, also studied under a member of the Yeongnam School. Kim Deuk-shin himself learned from Hwang Jong-hae and Dok Seo-heum of the Hangang School(寒岡學派), one of the major schools in the Yeongnam School.
Learning from the Hangang School, Kim Deuk-shin played a huge role in the memorial service for Hwang Jong-hae at the Dodong Seowon in Mokcheon along with Hangang Jeong Gu. He also set up the Guam Seowon in Cheongan and worked hard to hold a memorial service for Seo Sa-won, a literary figure under Jeong Gu, at the Seowon. The family of Kim Deuk-shin as a member of Hoseo Namin expanded its influence through his active village and community activities, and Mokcheon and Cheongan where his family resided became under the influence of Namin and the Yeongnam School.
