발달장애인 자녀를 둔 부모의 평생교육 인식 및 참여 실태 (The Perception of and the State of Participation in Lifelong Education of the Parents of Children with Developmental Disabilities)

초록

이 연구는 발달장애자녀를 둔 부모의 평생교육에 대한 인식과 참여 실태를 조사·분석하고, 이를 토대로 향후 평생교육 참여율을 제고하기 위한 방안을 모색하는 데 목적이 있다. 연구를 위해 발달장애자녀를 둔 부모 310명이 응답한 설문조사 결과를 분석하였으며, 연구의 주요 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 발달장애자녀를 둔 부모는 평생교육 개념에 대한 이해 정도나 평생학습 또는 평생교육이라는 용어를 접해 본 경험이 낮은 수준이었으며, 이는 공통적으로 부모의 성별, 최종학력, 가족의 전체수입, 그리고 자녀의 장애등급에 따라 통계적으로 유의미한 차이를 보였다. 이에 반해 평생교육에 대한 관심도나 평생교육 참여에 대한 의지는 상당히 높은 수준을 나타냈다. 둘째, 발달장애자녀를 둔 부모들의 평생교육 참여율에 대해 과거 평생교육 프로그램에 참여한 경험은 36.1%, 현재 참여 여부는 10.3%으로 매우 저조한 수준으로 나타났다. 평생교육 참여 경험이 있는 부모의 경우, 본인이 자발적으로 평생교육에 참여하였고, 참여 기간은 6개월 미만이며, 이용하는 기관은 사회복지관이나 장애인복지관이라는 응답이 절반 정도를 차지했다. 또한 평생교육에 참여하는 주된 목적은 새로운 지식과 정보를 알기 위해서나 장애자녀의 양육에 도움을 받기 위해서라는 응답이 가장 많았다.

영어초록

This study aims at examining and analyzing the perception of and the state of participation in lifelong education on the part of the parents of children with developmental disabilities, and seeking ways to increase those parents' future participation rate in lifelong education based on the results of the aforementioned examination and analysis. For this study, 310 parents of children with developmental disabilities were surveyed, and the questionnaires from the survey were analyzed, with the results as follows. First, the understanding degree about the concept of lifelong education and the level of acquaintance with the term of lifelong learning, or lifelong education of the parents of children with developmental disabilities were low. Those indicators (the understanding degree and the level of acquaintance) showed statistically significant differences across the gender of the parents, the highest level of schooling of the parents, total family income, and the degree of disability of the children. On the contrary, the level of interest in lifelong education was very high and the will to participate in it was shown to be very strong. Secondly, the participation rates in lifelong education both in the past and in the future of the parents of children with developmental disabilities were shown to be very low. In the case of the parents who had ever participated in lifelong education, the answer that they took part in it voluntarily, the answer that the duration of the participation was less than 6 months, and the answer that the institutions they attended were social welfare centers and rehabilitation centers for people with disabilities accounted for about half of the total answers, respectively. Also, as for the main purposes of participating in lifelong education, in order to acquire new knowledge and information, and in order to get some help with raising children with developmental disabilities were the most frequent answers. Based on the results above mentioned, we discussed some ways to vitalize lifelong education of the parents of children with developmental disabilities.
