초록

박상순은 확고한 시사적 위상을 점유하고 있음에도 불구하고, 그에 관한 평가는 미진한 편이다. 가령 그의 시는 ‘모호하다’ ‘난해하다’ 등의 평가 때문에, 내밀한 시 분석을 방해받아온 바 크다. 이 논문은 그 같은 아쉬움을 딛고 박상순의 1990년대 시의 당대성과 선구성을 아울러 점검하여, 그의 시의 동시대성을 살피고자 하였다. 동시대성은 시대에 놓여 있지만, 부조화하는 양상을 내포한다. 그래서 이 논문에서는 ‘동시대성’을 ‘당대성’과 ‘선구성’의 종합으로 보고, 당대성을 ‘고통’으로, 선구성을 ‘바깥’으로 환원하여 살펴, 박상순 시의 동시대성을 구조적으로 밝히고자 하였다. 그리고 그의 시의 동시대성을 분석하기 위해 식물 표상을 점검하였다.
박상순 시의 당대성을 언표하는 ‘고통’은 “꽃”, “콩나무” 표상을 통해 분석하였다. “꽃”은 ‘나’의 고통의 부각하는 장치로, “콩나무”는 벗어날 수 없는 “고통”을 표상하는 사물로 등장하였다. 그리고 박상순 시의 선구성을 언표하는 ‘바깥’은, “해바라기”, “숲”과 “꽃과 열매” 표상을 통해 분석하였다. “해바라기”는 ‘바깥에’ 놓인 ‘나’의 감각과 감수성을 증표하고, “숲”과 “꽃과 열매”는 ‘나’의 타자성을 각인하고 확인하게 하는 상징으로 드러났다. 또한 「4시간 동안의 침묵」에서는 “꽃나무”를 통해 당대성과 선구성을 함께, 종합적으로 나타내고 있었다. “꽃나무”는 어머니 상실을 표상하여 ‘나’의 고통과 연루되었고, 현실 세계를 표상하는 “여객기”와 거리감을 자아내며 “꽃나무”에 “앉아 있”는 ‘나’는 ‘바깥’에 놓인 존재임을 재현하였다.
박상순의 1990년대 시에 나타나는 식물 표상을 통해, 그의 동시대성을 살핀 이 논문의 유효함을 아래와 같이 정리할 수 있었다. 첫째, 박상순의 시는 ‘난해하다’ ‘모호하다’ 등의 평가 때문에, 내밀한 분석을 방해받아온 바 큰데, 그의 시를 시대, 현실과 연동하여 살핌으로써 그 같은 혐의를 해제하여 볼 수 있었다. 둘째, 동시대성이란 언표는 모호하고 범박하지만, 이 같은 ‘당대성’과 ‘선구성’을 종합적으로 검토함으로써 체계적인 접근을 수행한다면 그 의미를 보다 소상히 밝혀볼 수 있으리라는 사실을 확인하였다. 셋째, 그동안 식물 표상에 관한 연구는 생태적, 자연친화적 감수성을 살피고자 시도해온 사례가 대부분이지만, 이 논문에서 1990년대의 시적 주체가 나타내는 정체성 및 징후를 톺아보기 위해 활용하여 ‘자연 표상 연구’의 범주를 얼마간 확장해볼 수 있어 유의미하였다. 식물 표상과 주체의 정체성 및 징후를 연동시키는 박상순의 시는 2000년대 이후 시에 관한 예고를 고스란히 나타냈기에 시사적이다. 넷째, 1990년대 시는 1980년대 시 및 2000년대 시와의 역동적인 관계를 통해 해명해야 한다는 사실을 확인하였다

영어초록

Despite the fact that SangSoon Park occupies a prominent position in the history of poetry, the assessment of him is rather insignificant. For example, due to the assessment of his poetry being “ambiguous” and “esoteric”, he was hindered in receiving dense analysis of his poetry. This paper aims to overcome such shortcomings and study the contemporaneity of Park’s poetry in the 1990s by examining both the contemporarity and pioneering nature of his work of poetry. Contemporaneity implies an incongruous aspect, although it is placed in the era. Therefore, this paper looks at “contemporaneity” as a synthesis of “contemporarity” and “prefiguration”, reverting contemporarity to “pain” and prefiguration to “outside”, to reveal the structural contemporaneity of Park's poetry. And the plant representation was checked to analyze the contemporaneity of his poetry.
The “pain” that expresses the contemporarity of Park's poetry was analyzed through the representations of "flower" and "beanstalk". The "flower" is a device that emphasizes the pain of "me," and the "beanstalk" appears as an object that represents the inescapable "pain”. And the "outside," which expresses the pioneering nature of Park's poem, was analyzed through the representations of "sunflower," "forest," and "flowers and fruits”. "Sunflowers" represented the senses and sensitivity of "me" placed "outside," while "forests" and "flowers and fruits" were symbols that imprinted and confirmed the otherness of "me." In addition, in "Four Hours of Silence," through the "flower tree" the contemporarity and pioneering nature are comprehensively represented together. The "flower tree" represented the loss of the mother and became involved in the pain of the "me," and created a sense of distance from the "airliner," which represented the real world, reproducing "me" who is “outside” while” sitting" in the "flower tree".
Through the representation of plants in Park's 1990s poems, the validity of this thesis, which examines his contemporaneity, can be summarized as the following. First, Park's poetry has been criticized as “esoteric” and “ambiguous”, which has largely hindered closer analysis, but by examining his poetry in relation to the times and reality, we were able to clear up such suspicion. Second, although the term contemporaneity is vague and general, we found that a systematic approach by comprehensively examining “contemporarity” and “preconstruction” would shed more light on its meaning. Third, while most studies of plant representation have attempted to examine ecological and environment-friendly sensitivity, it was significant that this paper was able to expand the category of “nature representation studies” to some extent by utilizing it to examine and look back on the identities and signs of poetic subjects in the 1990s. Park's poems that link plant representations with the identities and signs of the subject are historically poetic as they are an intact foreshadowing of the poetry of the 2000s and beyond. Fourth, this study confirms that the poetry of the 1990s should be explained through a dynamic relationship with the poetry of the 1980s and the poetry of the 2000s.
