초록

본 연구에서는 한양대학교 국악과 교육과정의 변천을 실기 및 이론 과목으로 구분하여 학년별 특징을 분석하였다.
졸업학점 및 교과목 구분의 변화는 초기에는 음악대학 공통과목이 많고 교육과정 변화가 빈번했으며, 중기에는 전공 교과목이 활발히 개설됐다. 후기에는 기존 과목이 안정화되고 최신 동향에 맞는 과목만 개설되는 경향을 보인다.
교육과정의 변천에서 학년별 특징으로는 1학년은 전공의 기초 과목 위주로 구성되었고, 2,3학년에는 필수 및 심화 과목, 최신 학문 이슈를 반영한 과목이 배치되었다. 4학년에서는 전공 인접 분야 및 졸업 후 진로에 필요한 과목이 개설되는 양상이 나타났다. 한양대학교 국악과 교육과정은 세부 전공(기악, 성악, 이론, 작곡)의 특성을 살리기 위해 창설 초기 관현악, 이론, 작곡의 전공별 교육과정을 따로 만들었으며 이후 정착된 교육과정에도 전공의 특성을 살릴 수 있도록 노력한 흔적이 나타난다.
실기 과목은 창설 시기부터 현재까지 개설되어있는 과목들이 많고, 그 밖에도 대부분 1990년대 이전에 개설된 것으로 보아 전통성을 고수하고 있음을 알 수 있다. 반면, 이론 과목은 지속적인 변화와 다양한 개편이 이루어졌는데, 이러한 양상은 시기별 동향을 반영한 과목개설의 결과라고 판단된다.
본 연구에서 이루어진 1972년부터 2023년까지의 한양대학교 국악과 교육과정의 변천에 관한 논의는 앞으로 한양대학교 국악과 교육과정의 보편성과 특수성을 고려한 방향성의 선정에 근거 자료로 활용될 수 있을 것이다.

This study investigates the developmental changes in the curriculum of Hanyang University’s Department of Korean Traditional Music, categorizing courses into practical and theoretical subjects and analyzing their characteristics by academic year.
The change in graduation credits and course classification shows that, in the early stage, there were many common subjects across the music college, and curriculum changes occurred frequently. In the middle stage, major-specific courses were actively offered. In the later stage, existing courses became stabilized, and only courses aligned with the latest trends tended to be offered.
To begin with, the curriculum characteristics by academic year reveal that the first year is primarily composed of foundational courses specific to the major. In the second and third years, the curriculum includes core and advanced courses, along with subjects reflecting current academic trends. By the fourth year, the curriculum features courses from adjacent fields and those tailored to post-graduation career requirements.
Hanyang University’s Department of Korean Traditional Music designed individual curricula for each specialization—instrumental performance, vocal performance, theory, and composition—from its inception to highlight the unique characteristics of each field. The continued evolution of the curriculum reflects consistent efforts to retain and enhance these distinctive aspects across specializations.
When examining course types, practical courses have largely been maintained since the department’s inception, with most offerings originating before the 1990s, underscoring a strong adherence to tradition. In contrast, theoretical courses have experienced ongoing updates and restructuring, a trend likely resulting from course additions that respond to evolving academic and cultural trends over the years.
This study’s examination of the curriculum changes in Hanyang University’s Department of Korean Traditional Music from 1972 to 2023 provides a valuable foundation for guiding future curriculum development that balances the program’s universal principles with its unique characteristics.
