한양 정도(定都) 전승담의 종교․이념적 맥락과 의미: 무학(無學)의 심상(心象)과 등장인물의 기능을 중심으로 (The Religious, Ideological Context and Meaning of a Story that sets Hanyang as its Capital: Focusing on the Image of no School and the Function of the Characters)

초록

본고는 개성에서 한양으로의 천도이야기에 반영된 종교․이념적 성격을 살펴보는 것을 목표로 삼는다. 무학설화로 병칭될 정도로 정도지(定都地) 물색담은 무학을 축으로 이야기가 전개되며 그의 주위에 종교․이념적 색채를 달리하는 인물들을 등장시키고 있다는 특성이 드러난다. 따라서 무학 못지않게 주변 인물들, 가령 의상․도선․산신․산신령․정도전․하륜 등의 심상과 기능을 살피는 작업이 필요하다고 보았다. 무학 앞에 출현하는 의상․도선(불가)․산신령․노인(민속신앙)․정도전․하륜(유가)은 정도지 물색에 나선 무학에게 조언자 혹은 비판자로 양분된다. 의상과 도선은 앞선 시기의 명풍승으로 비기(祕記)를 통해 간접적으로 한양 점정지(點定地)를 지정해줄뿐더러 무학을 불가 풍수의 적자임을 확인시킨다. 산신령은 무학의 점정 오류를 지적한 후 터를 직시해줌으로써 민속신격의 택지안목이 우위에 있음을 확인시킨다. 정도전과 하륜은 무학의 점정지에 거부하는 것은 물론 불가 풍수의 맹점을 거론하며 사류(士類)의 안목으로 터를 획정(劃定)한다. 등장인물의 기능은 정도지 찾기를 두고 여러 전승집단의 이해와 입장을 돌출시켜주고 있다. 그 점에서 한양 정도담을 무학전승, 혹은 단순한 풍수담의 영역에만 귀속시킬 수 없다. 한양정도담은 각 종교이념을 대변하는 인물들이 무학에게 훈수를 주는 방식으로 자신들의 풍수적 우위성을 드러내게 되는데 그것은 혼재하는 제 종교․이념 사이에서 정체성과 존재감을 드러내고자 하는 욕구와 무관치 않다.

영어초록

The article aims to examine the religious and ideological nature of the story that occurred when the capital was moved from Kaesong to Hanyang. It is no exaggeration to say that it has been mixed with the story of Master Muhak, but the relocation of the capital is based on the central axis of Muhak, a Buddhist monk, even though it is a national project. It also reveals the characteristic of placing people around it who have different religious and ideological characteristics. Therefore, the characteristics of this story are revealed when looking at the images and functions of the surrounding characters, such as costumes, doseon, mountain god, mountain spirit, Jeong Do-jeon, and Ha-ryun as well as martial arts. Those who confront the ambassador are not randomly assigned figures. Uisang Ambassador, Doseon Ambassador (Buddhism), Sansin Spirit, Older People (people's faith), Jeong Do-jeon, and Ha-ryun (Confucianism) are found to be responsible for advising or critical functions of Muhak Ambassador, who is searching for the right amount. Ambassador Uisang and Doseon are excellent acquaintances of the preceding period, and through secret books, they indirectly designate the capital location and confirm that Muhak is a representative of the Buddhist community. The mountain god not only points out the error in finding the site of shamanism, but also confirms that he has a good eye for folk beliefs by finding a new monastery. Jeong Do-jeon and Ha Ryun not only reject the decision of shamanism, but also point out the weak points of finding a place in Buddhism, and decide the position of the godfather. Focusing on the character's function reveals that various speakers' understanding and positions are being expressed over the capital's location. In that respect, it is not appropriate to attribute the story of determining the location of the new capital to the story of shamanism, or simply to the search for a good place. The purpose of this type of story is to reveal the identity of various religions, ideologies, and the presence of each group on the task of finding a good place for the people representing each religious ideology to teach Muhak.
