근대 「해와 달」 전래동화의 텍스트 양상 -일본인 편저자의 자료를 중심으로 (Textual Aspects of “The Sun and the Moon” in Modern Korea ‒Focusing on the Japanese-edited Materials)

초록

본고는 근대 시기에 일본인 편저자가 기록한 「해와 달」 전래동화인 미와 다마키의 「해와 달」(1919), 조선 총독부의 「천벌 받은 호랑이」(1924), 나카무라 료헤이의 「두 남매와 호랑이」(1926)를 자료적으로 살피고 그 텍스트 양상을 고찰하였다. 우선 이들 서사 텍스트의 편저자와 서지 사항, 자료상의 의의를 검토하였다. 일본 인 편저자의 텍스트 3편은 모두 콩 모티프를 구현한다는 공통점이 있고, 이 점은 한국인 편저자가 기록한 다른 텍스트와의 차별점이었다. 나카무라의 텍스트는 조선총독부의 텍스트를 개작하며 제목을 바꾼 것인데, 전반적 인 사건의 전개 과정과 서술상의 묘사가 맥락을 같이 하였다. 특히 호랑이가 어머니에게 가해하는 시간적 배 경이 낮 시간대라는 점이 두 텍스트의 유사성을 밝히는 지점이었다. 그리고 서사 내용과 구성을 분석하기 위 하여 등장인물의 기능 양상에 주목하였으며, 텍스트의 변이가 뚜렷한 금지/위반, 직분부여/직분교체, 가해/기 만/추적 기능 단락을 논의하였다. 조선총독부와 나카무라의 텍스트는 일반적으로 「해와 달」 이야기에서 활성 화되지 못한 금지/위반 내용을 지니고 있었다. 또한 3편의 텍스트에서 모두 하늘로 올라간 오누이가 해와 달 이 되는 직분부여 단락은 보유하고 있지만 그들이 직분을 바꾸는 직분교체 단락은 결여하고 있었다. 그리고 가해/기만/추적 단락에서는 일반적인 서사 법칙에 따른 반복성이 적극적으로 구현되고 있음을 보았다. 근대에 채록·수집된 옛이야기 텍스트는 오늘날 어린이들에게 널리 읽히는 전래동화 장르의 서사적 원형이자 원천이 다. 유아·아동 독서물인 옛이야기그림책, 전래동화책이 아동문화 콘텐츠 현장이나 출판 시장에서 매우 큰 비 중을 차지하고 있기 때문에 아동문학 문단이나 출판계에서 전래동화를 재화·각색하는 과정에서 무엇보다 유 념해야 할 것은 작품성이 담보될 수 있는 텍스트를 확보하는 일이다. 이를 위하여 근대에 문자 기록으로 정착 된 옛이야기 텍스트를 발굴하고 연구하는 노력이 지속되어야 한다. 근대 시기의 「해와 달」 이야기가 보여주는 텍스트 양상을 충분히 고려하여 아동문화와 아동교육 현장에서 활용되어야 할 것이다.

영어초록

This paper is a study of “The Sun and the Moon,” a traditional fairy tale written by the Japanese. The works studied are Tamaki Miwa(三輪環)’s “The Sun and the Moon(太陽と月)”(1919), Government-General of Chosun(朝鮮總督府)’s “The Punished Tiger(虎の天罰)”(1924), and Ryohei Nakamura(中村亮平)’s “The Two Brothers and the Tiger(二人の兄弟と虎)”(1926). These works were examined materially. I then discussed their structure and textual aspects. I first examined the authorship of these works, followed by their bibliographical and material significance. The works all have in common that they embody the ‘bean’ motif. This fact distinguishes them from works written by Korean authors. Nakamura’s text is an adaptation of the Government-General of Chosun’s text. Although the title has been changed, the overall course of events and narrative descriptions are similar. In particular, the temporal setting of the scene where the tiger eats the mother is set during daylight hours, which reveals the similarities between the two texts. To analyze the narrative content and organization, I paid attention to the function of the characters. The narrative variations in the texts were evident in the scenes of prohibition and violation, the granting and replacement of titles, and the infliction, deception, and pursuit. The texts of the Government-General of Chosun and Nakamura generally have prohibitions and violations that are not activated in the story of the Sun and Moon; all three texts have a title-granting section, but not a title-swapping section in which they switch titles; and the assault, deception, and pursuit sections actively implement repetition according to general narrative rules. These texts, collected in modern times, are the narrative prototypes and sources for the genre of folk tales widely read by children today. Picture books and traditional fairy tales, which are infant and children’s reading materials, occupy a very large share of the children’s cultural content scene and publishing market. Therefore, the most important thing to keep in mind in the process of adapting traditional fairy tales in the children’s literature field or publishing industry is to secure texts that can guarantee workability. To this end, efforts should be made to discover and study texts of old stories that have been settled as written records in modern times. The textual aspects of the story of “Sun and Moon” in the modern era should be fully considered and utilized in children’s culture and children’s education.
