중등음악교사들의 다문화 음악교육에 관한 인식 및 실태 조사 (A Research on the Actual Condition and the Music Teachers' Understanding of Multicultural Music Education)

The purpose of this study is to find out the actual condition of multicultural music education in junior high and high schools and to discuss how to improve it. The survey was conducted for 100 music teachers in seoul. The collected data was measured by frequency, percentage, descriptive with SPSS win 12.0 program. The results are as follow.
The teachers recognized the importance and necessity of the multicultural music education, but they showed less understanding of the multicultural music education. The results also show that just a few multicutural music classes were offered and most of these classes focus on listening and singing the multicultural music. To improve this, the multicultural music education should be greater part of the music curriculum in school, and the lesson plans including various activities should be developed. According to the survey, most music teachers had difficulty teaching the multicultural music. This is owe to the lack of the teacher education for multicultural music, and shortage of the materials of the multicultural music. However, most of the students had positive opinions about the multicultural music. Students' replies to the questionnaire about the multicultural music segment into three parts: concentration, response and understanding level. The result showed that concentration and response level was high while understanding level was relatively lower. Teachers were generally not satisfied with the teaching environment, especially materials of the multicultural music. Teachers also responded negatively when asked whether environment of the multicultural music education was appropriate for students. Educational environment should be improved for the effective multicultural music education.
