뉴미디어 아트 전시 공간의 숭고미 해석 (An Analysis on Sublime Beauty in the Exhibition Space of New Media Art)

초록

본 연구의 목적은 새로운 관람경험을 제공하는 뉴미디125 어 아트 전시공간의 숭고미를 해석하는데 있다. 뉴미디어 아트는 기술의 변화가 예술에 적용되면서 시작된 새로운 예술장르로서, 기술매체가 제공하는 시· 공간의초월성을 체험할 수 있는 예술이다. 따라서 새로운 관람경험을 가능하게 하는 전시 공간에서 뉴미디어의 활용은 큰 호응을 얻고 있다. 이러한 뉴미디어 아트 전시공간은 관람객에게 인간과 기술이 만들어낸 잠재력과가능성을 경험하게 한다. 이처럼 예술과 기술의 경계를넘나드는 전시공간은 숭고미의 대상이 된다. 본 연구는뉴미디어 아트 전시 공간의 미적 경험을 숭고미의 이론을 기반으로 한다. 이를 위해 첫째, 아트에 대한 개념을고찰하고, 선행연구를 통해 뉴미디어 아트의 대표적 특성 3가지를 도출한다. 둘째, 숭고미의 형성배경을 이해하고, 부정적 쾌감과 사건성을 숭고미의 대표적 특성으로 도출한다. 셋째, 숭고미와 뉴미디어 아트 전시 공간의 특성 사이의 연계성을 ‘시공간의 경계로서 숭고미’, ‘다중 감각의 발생으로서 부정성’, ‘실시간 움직임으로서사건성’으로 도출하여 뉴미디어 아트 전시 공간의 숭고미를 해석한다. 본 연구는 뉴미디어 아트 전시에 대한인식론적 접근이라는 점에서 의미를 갖으며, 향후 전시디자인에 대한 다의적 해석을 마련하는데 계기가 되길기대한다.

영어초록

The purpose of this study is to analyze the sublime beauty in the exhibition space of new media art that provides new viewing experience. New media art is a new art genre that began when various advanced t echnologies were incorporated into art, and it allows people to experience the transcendence of time and s pace provided by technical media. Therefore, the use of new media in exhibition spaces that enable new e 124 xperiences in viewing is receiving great response. Th is exhibition space of new media art provides visitor s with a multi-sensory experience to enjoy the new world of creation created by humans and technology.
This exhibition space that crosses the boundaries of art and technology becomes an object of sublime bea uty. In this study, the aesthetic experience in the ex hibition space of new media art is based on the theo ry of sublime. To this end, first, we consider the con cept of art and identify three representative character istics of new media art through previous studies. Sec ond, we understand the background of formation of s ublime, and derive negative pleasure and eventuality as representative characteristics of sublime. Third, w e interpret the sublime shown in the exhibition space of new media art by dividing the connection between sublime and the characteristics of the exhibition spac e of new media art into 'sublime as a boundary bet ween time and space', 'negative as a occurrence of multiple senses', and 'eventuality as a real-time mov ement'. The power of technology created by human s in modern society provides a much more multi-lay ered and complex feelings than the awe given by nat ure. This study is meaningful in that it takes an epi stemological approach to the exhibition of new media art, and we hope that this study will serve as an op portunity to prepare a multidisciplinary interpretation of exhibition design in the future.
