Isang Yun composed Piano Trio, n. 1, String quartet, n. 1, a collection of songs Dalmuri(a ring around the moon), and a song a riverside at sunset before 1956 on leaving Korea for Europe. Piano Trio, n. 1, String quartet, n. 1 were published by Society for Native Cultural Research in 1955. Dalmuri were published by Haengmunsa 1949 and contained 6 songs such as Gopungeusang(dress in an antique style), Dalmuri, Chucheon(a swing), Chungmuga(s song dedicated to General Lee), Pyeongi(a letter), Nagne(a traveler). A Riverside at sunset was unknown song, but it's music was founded out for the first time.
He wrote a lot of critical essays in this period. Some of his essays from this period include: "Problems of our Music Society," "Two Parties and Dodecaphony," "Advice to a Vocalist," "On the Atmosphere of Concerts," "Myself and Music," and "Creation and Criticism." In his essays, we can get a feel for his ideas about music. Reading about his ideas helps us to better understand the music he composed in Europe. In monthly magazines, Yun wrote music essays about the problems in the Korean music society and suggested possible solutions.
