트라우마와 릴레이셔널 홈: 위기에 처한 목회자와 사모 돌봄과 상담을 위한 개념적 틀 (Title: Trauma and Relational Home: Conceptual Framework for Caring and Counseling of Pastors and Spouses.)

초록

본고는 목회 사건과 자료에서 출발하여 실천-이론-실천으로 이어지는 목회신학 방법론에 따라 트라우마와 릴레이셔널 홈(relational home)이란 개념을 중심으로 목회자와 사모를 이해하고 돌보고 상담하는 틀을 제시한다. 이를 위해 트라우마와 릴레이셔널 홈의 개념을 간략히 소개하고, 두 개념이 목회자와 사모의 상황과 심리를 이해하는데 도움을 준다는 것을 보여주며, 두 개념에 기초하여 목회자와 사모의 돌봄과 상담을 위한 실제적인 방안을 제시한다.
본고는 트라우마를 이상심리학의 한 범주로만 제한시키지 않고 인간의 존재와 상황을 폭넓게 해석할 수 있는 이론적 패러다임으로 이해하고, 스톨로로우(Robert D. Stolorow)의 ‘릴레이션날 홈’을 트라우마 치유의 주요한 은유로 활용하여 목회자와 사모의 상황과 치유과정을 분석하려고 노력했다. 교회 분열과 갈등은 목회자와 사모에게는 트라우마에 상응하는 충격을 줄 수 있고, 위기에 처한 교인이나 사회적 약자를 도우면서 목회자와 사모는 간접적 트라우마를 겪을 수도 있다. 고통이 있어도 다른 사람들에게 털어놓기 어려운 목회자와 사모의 특수한 사정은 트라우마를 더욱 심화시킬 수 있다.
외상성 사건과 조건에 의해 과거와 현재의 트라우마의 영향을 받고 있는 목회자와 사모에게는 릴레이셔널 홈이 절대적으로 필요하다. 이를 위해 릴레이셔널 홈이 될 수 있는 지지모임을 만들고, 초기에는 상담자가 적극적인 개입하여 서로 지지하고 공감할 수 있는 안전한 분위기를 확립하고, 공감과 소통을 위해 비폭력대화를 도입하며, 트라우마의 관점을 수시로 소개하며, 마무리를 할 때에는 통성기도를 하는 것이 효과적인 방법이 될 수 있다고 제시한다.
결론적으로 본고는 목회자와 사모의 스트레스와 트라우마에 대한 학문적 연구를 촉구한다.

영어초록

This study, following the pastoral theological methodology which consists of practice-theory-practice, presents a conceptual framework for caring and counseling pastors and spouses with reference to the two concepts: trauma and relational home. First, it briefly introduces the concepts of trauma and relational home, then demonstrates that these two concepts serve to understand the situation and emotional state of pastors and spouses, and finally provides practical suggestions for their caring and counseling on the basis of these two concepts.
By not limiting the concept of trauma to a criterion of abnormal psychology, but understanding it as a theoretical paradigm for interpreting human existence and predicaments in a comprehensive way, on the one hand, and by employing the notion of relational home coined by Robert D. Stolorow as a major metaphor for healing trauma, on the other hand, this study seeks to analyze the situation of pastors and spouses and their healing process. Church division and conflicts may inflict shocks comparable to trauma on pastors and spouses, and they may be subject to indirect traumas in their caring those in crisis as well as the weak and oppressed. Since pastors and spouses tend to have difficulties in expressing their pains and experiences to others, their traumas may become intensified.
Pastors and spouses who are under the effects of traumas through traumatic events and conditions in the present and in the past have great need of a relational home. This study presents the following five strategies for caring and counseling pastors and spouses: (1) to create groups of pastors and spouses which may become a relational home; (2) to establish an environment of safety for mutual support and empathy through the counselor’s active intervention in the initial stage of the group; (3) to introduce the nonviolent communication for empathy and effective communication; (4) to inform the trauma perspective and model frequently; (5) to utilize the Tongseong Gido (Korean prayer) at the end of the group work.
In concluding remarks this study raises concern for scientific studies of stresses and traumas of pastors and spouses.
