농학계 대학의 실태와 대응방안에 관한 연구: 농학계 대학 교수들의 의견을 중심으로 (A Study on the Current State and Countermeasures of Agricultural Colleges: Focused on the Perspectives of Agricultural College Professors)

초록

지금까지 농학계 대학과 관련된 연구 다수는 대학 주체인 학생 관점에서 대내적 개혁방안을 마련하는 것이 주를 이루었으며, 대학의 또 다른 주체이자 대학사회의 변화에 지대한 영향력을 가진 교수 관점에서 발전방안을 마련하는 연구가 드물었다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 농학계 대학에 소속된 교수들의 의견을 바탕으로 대학의 변화방향을 모색해 보고자, 전국 24개 농학계 대학 학장 및 교수 67명을 대상으로 설문지를 배부하여 응답결과를 분석해 보았다.
그 결과, 응답 교수 70%이상이 농업․농촌에 대한 전망을 긍정적으로 보지만 사회적 인식 등의 외부적 요인으로 인해 관련 산업으로의 진출은 부정적으로 보고 있는 것으로 나타났으며, 농학계 학생의 지원율을 비롯한 질적 성장과 관심도가 전반적으로 감소추세에 있다고 판단하고 있었다. 또한, 대도시에 소재하고 있거나 규모가 큰 대학의 교수들은 비농학계열로의 전환을, 중소도시에 소재하거나 규모가 작은 대학의 교수들은 산학협력의 현장중심 대학으로의 변화를 요구하는 것으로 나타나서 지역이나 대학환경에 따라 차이를 보였다.
분석결과로 볼 때, 우선 농업․농촌에 대한 긍정적 인식개선을 위한 정책적 연구와 범사회적인 홍보가 이뤄져야 할 것이며, 농업․농촌을 근본으로 하는 다각적인 학문분야를 개발하고 인재양성에 주력하여 포괄적인 질적 향상을 도모해야 할 것이다. 또한, 농학계 대학 간의 경쟁구도를 벗어나 지역 특성과 대학 상황 등을 고려한 특화대학으로의 체계적 변화를 통해 타 학문에 대응하는 경쟁력 확보에 주력해야 할 것이다.

영어초록

Until recently, studies on agricultural colleges have focused on preparing internal innovative measures in the perspectives of students, who are the subject of colleges, while little studies have been conducted in the perspectives of professors who are another subject of colleges and have a considerable influence over college communities. Thus, this study aimed to seek the direction of change of agricultural colleges based on the opinions of agricultural college professors. To this end, questionnaires were distributed to 67 deans and professors of 24 agricultural colleges across the country for analysis.
The findings show that more than 70% of the respondents had positive views on the future of agriculture and agricultural areas, while there were negative perspectives on the advancement into the industry due to the external factors, such as social awareness. In addition, it was considered that the qualitative growth of and interest in agriculture, including the application rate of agricultural colleges, have been generally decreasing. It was also found that professors of agricultural colleges in large cities or those with large size requested the transformation of their schools into non-agricultural colleges, while professors of agricultural colleges in small and medium cities or those with small size requested the change to the practice-based colleges with the industry-college cooperation, showing variance by region or college environment.
Thus, policy promotion and research need to be carried out across the entire society to positively enhance the recognition of agriculture and rural areas. Also, a comprehensive improvement in quality should be sought by developing multilateral academic fields and focusing on educating talents based on agriculture and rural areas. Furthermore, an effort needs to be made to secure the competitiveness in relation to other academic areas through the systematic change to small-sized specialized colleges, taking regional characteristics and college conditions into account, beyond the competing structure among agricultural colleges.
