게오르기 케페슈의 시각적 사고와 그 이론적 배경에 대해서 (A Study on Visual Thinking of Gyorgy Kepes and Its Theoretical Background)

초록

본 연구는 디지털 테크놀로지를 중심으로 전개되고 있는 정보화 사회의 시대적 흐름에 부합하는 디자인 교육체계에 대한 연구의 일환으로써, 철저한 분석적 사고와 감성적 직관의 융합으로 디자인 교육의 새로운 패러다임을 제시하고자 했던 게오르기 케페슈(Gyorgy Kepes)의 시각적 사고와 그 이론적 배경의 검토를 실시했다. 논고에 있어서는. 케페슈의 조형이론이 심리학이나 광학은 물론 테크놀로지와 같은 다양한 분야와 연계를 토대로 성립하고 있음에 착목하여, 이에 관련된 저서와 관련문헌에 대한 고찰을 실시하였다. 그 결과 심리학이나 광학적 관점을 기반으로 한 이론적 배경에서는, 인간의 심리구조에 대한 정확한 이해와 활용을 목적으로 시감각의 메커니즘에 대한 철저한 분석이 시도되었음이 확인되었다. 이러한 시도는 시각요소의 조직적 체계화에서 구체적으로 발현되었는데, 특히 시각 메시지의 효과적 전달을 위한 시각요소의 위치나 거리, 크기, 질감 등의 다양한 변화를 고려한 상호관련성의 이해가 강조되었다. 테크놀로지를 기반으로 한 이론적 배경에서는, 테크놀로지의 자연과학적 분석력이 제공하는 사물의 구조와 본질, 그리고 그 속에 작용하는 법칙의 가시화에 대한 적극적인 활용이 강조되었다. 이러한 케페슈의 독창적인 관점과 사고의 틀은 갈수록 다양해져 가는, 디자인 교육체계에 대한 사회적 요구에 부응하는 방안 모색에 토대가 될 것으로 생각된다. 따라서, 이후 연구과제로서 게오프기 케페슈의 조형이론과 표현체계에 대한 다각적이고 구체적인 검토를 실시해 가도록 하겠다.

영어초록

This study has implemented the review on visual thinking of Gyorgy Kepes and its theoretical background that had the purpose in presenting new paradigm in design education with the convergence of thorough analytical thinking and sensitive intuition as part of studies on design education system in meeting for flow of time in informatization society undertaken around digital technology. In this argument, contemplation has been implemented on the writings and relevant documentations with the focus on having the formative theory of Kepes established on the basis of connection to diverse fields in psychological or optical field as well as technological field. As a result, in the theoretical background on the psychological or optical point of view, it has been confirmed that the thorough analysis has been attempted on the visual mechanism with the purpose of having accurate understanding and facilitation on human psychological structure. This type of attempt was manifested in details in the organizational system for visual element with the particular emphasis in understanding of mutual relativity in consideration of diverse changes in location, distance, size, quality and other like in visual element for effective conveyance of visual message. In the technology-based theoretical background, the emphasis has been made on active facilitation on structure and intrinsic value of object provided by the natural and scientific analytical skills in technology as well as the visualization of principles applicable within the foregoing. Such unique point of view and frame of thinking of Kepes would be considered as the foundation for seeking for plans that respond to the social demand on design education that has become more and more diversified as time flows. Therefore, as the future research task, diversified reviews on the formative theory system of Kepes have to be undertaken in search for concrete facilitation plan thereof.
