갯벌지역의 어로활동과 어로신앙 (The fishing Activities and Fishery Faith in Foreshore Regions)

초록

갯벌은 수많은 생물의 서식지이자 다양한 어업문화를 낳고 전승해온 배경이다. 어민들은 갯벌 속에 깃들어 살면서 다양한 민속지식을 창출해왔다. 어로 기술과 도구를 통해 갯벌 환경에 적응해왔으며, 그와 연계된 유무형의 토착지식을 전승해왔다. 그리고 갖가지 의례를 통해 초자연적인 존재와의 소통을 도모하고 풍어와 어로 안전을 축원해왔다.
갯벌 어로는 갯벌의 생태환경 조건을 그대로 수용하고 있다. ‘물때’라는 생태적 시간은 어로의 적절성을 가늠하는 기준이 되며, 어민들은 그것에 맞춰 어로활동을 하고 의례를 수행한다. 생태적 시간과 어로력(漁撈曆)․의례력(儀禮曆)이 긴밀하게 연계돼 있음을 볼 수 있다.
갯벌지역 어로신앙의 특징은 갯바위지역과의 비교를 통해 더 구체적으로 드러난다. 네 가지를 들 수 있다. 첫째, 어로 종류별 의례의 대응을 볼 수 있다. 이것은 조수간만의 차를 이용해 고기를 잡는 갯벌 어로의 원리와 의례의 수요가 상관있음을 보여준다. 그리고 갯벌지역의 정치(定置) 어로작업이 대부분 개인 또는 집안 단위로 수행되는 것과도 관련이 있다.
둘째, 갯제의 지속과 변화를 볼 수 있다. 현행 갯제에 남아 있는 도깨비고사의 흔적은, 어로 방식의 변화와 관련된 의례적 대응 과정을 보여준다. 현행 갯제는 해조류 양식(養殖)이 등장 한 이후에 새로운 전승력(力)을 확보해서 전승되고 있지만, 재래의 내용을 일정 부분 담고 있다. 이것을 통해 갯제의 지속성과 변화를 볼 수 있다.
셋째, 여성의 주도적 참여를 볼 수 있다. 공동체신앙의 일반적인 양상에 비추어볼 때, 여성들이 갯제를 주도하는 것은 주목할 만한 현상이다. 그 배경으로, 어로활동 주체와 의례 주체의 동일성, 여성 생식력과의 관련성, 도깨비신앙과 여성의 관련성을 들 수 있다.
넷째, 기풍의례적(祈豊儀禮的)인 주술종교성(呪術宗敎性)이 두드러진다. 밀물에 제사를 지내고, 상황을 연출해서 풍어를 가져다준다고 여기는 도깨비(진서방, 김서방) 부르기 놀이를 하며, 김 농사가 잘 된 마을의 갯벌을 퍼다가 갯벌에 뿌리는 것은 주술적인 사고와 연관 있다. 그리고 갯제 직후에 해산물 채취 흉내를 내고 해산물을 육지로 퍼올리는 모의적 동작을 하는 것도 주술적 원리에 기초한 것이라고 할 수 있다.

영어초록

Foreshore is the background which is the home for numerous creatures and which has given birth to various fishery culture and transmitted it. Fishing people have lived on foreshore and created various cultural knowledge. Fishing techniques and tools have allowed them to survive in foreshore regions and fishing people have transmitted native culture which is involved with them materially or immaterially. In addition, through various rituals, they attempted to communicate with the supernatural beings and wished for a heavy catch and safe fishery.
Foreshore fishery has accepted the ecological condition of foreshore just the way it has been. ‘Multae’, a biological time, is the criterion to judge the appropriateness of fishery; fishing people catch fish in accordance with it and conduct rituals. We can observed that biological time, fishery timetable, and ritual timetable are closely related.
The characteristics of fishery faith in foreshore regions appear more concretely in comparison with the rocks on the sea shore region. There are more characteristics. Firstly, there is the correspondence among the rituals for each fishery. This shows the relation between the principle of foreshore fishery which uses the difference between the tide to catch fish and the demand for rituals. Also, fishery station work is conducted individually or in family has is related to it as well.
Secondly, there is the continuation and change of foreshore ceremony. The traces of goblin offering remnant in the current foreshore ceremony display the process of ritual correspondence which is related to the changes of the method. The current foreshore ceremony, after the emergence of seaweed farming, has gained new momentum and is being transmitted, containing some of the existing contents. Through this, the continuation and change of foreshore ceremony can be observed.
Thirdly, we can observe the active participation of woman. Observe the general aspects of community faith, it is quite remarkable that women lead the foreshore ceremony. For that, the identity of subject of fishery activities and the ceremony, the relation with the female productivity, and the relationship between the goblin faith and women can be given.
Finally, there is evident customary sorcery religiosity. It is related to the sorcery thinking: offering sacrifices to the tide, staging and performing the calling the goblin (Mr. Jin and Mr. Kim) which is considered to bring a heavy catch, spreading sand from the foreshore of the town which had a good seaweed harvest. In addition, performing the seafood catching after the foreshore ceremony and performing simulated motions to bring up seafood unto the earth can be said to be based on sorcery principles.
