초록

이덕홍은 약관 무렵(1559)에 이황에게 집지하였으며, 그 뒤 이황이 세상을 떠날 때까지 12년 동안 늘 측근에서 함께 생활하였다. 퇴계 강록의 전통이 잘 나타나는 『四書質疑』의 경우, 이황의 사서주석인 『四書三經釋義』의 내용을 반영함은 물론 그 확충한 내용을 담고 있어 이황과 그 직전제자들의 사서해석을 이해하는 중요한 강록이다. 다만 그 집성되는 과정에서 적지 않은 후대의 손길이 닿았으므로 그 과정상의 내용을 세밀하게 살필 필요가 있다.
『사서질의』에는 적지 않은 경전의 글자에 대한 훈고가 있는데 이는 본문만을 대상으로 하는 것이 아니라 주자의 주와 소주의 내용까지 포괄하고 있어 이후의 경전 해석에 중요한 실마리를 주는 것이다. 이것은 주로 본문의 文義 이해를 위한 언해와 해석의 방향을 잡아주던 ‘釋義’ 단계에서 더욱 진전하여 集注에 대한 본격적인 검토가 시작되었다는 것을 볼 수 있으며, 그것은 어록에 대한 문법적인 요소에서 더 나아가 본문 자체에 대한 좀 더 심층적인 이해와 해석의 기준을 제공한다는 점에서 적지 않은 의미가 있다.

영어초록

Lee Deok-hong served Yi Hwang in his youth (1559) and lived with him for 12 years until Yi Hwang passed away. In the case of Saseojil-ui (四書質疑)』, which well reflects the tradition of Toegye Gingnok, it reflects the contents of Yi Hwang's Saseo Samgyeong Seok-ui (四書三經釋義)』, which is an expanded version of the Four Books, and is an important lecture for understanding the Four Books of Yi Hwang and his immediate disciples. However, since many later generations were involved in the process of compiling it, it is necessary to examine the contents of the process in detail. In 『Saseojilui』, there are many commentaries on the characters of the scriptures, which are not only for the main text but also include the contents of Zhu Xi’s commentaries and subcomments, providing important clues for the subsequent interpretation of the scriptures. This shows that the full-scale review of the commentaries has begun, going further than the ‘seog-ui’ stage, which mainly provided the direction of interpretation and interpretation for understanding the text’s meaning, and it is significant in that it provides a more in-depth understanding of the text itself and a standard for interpretation, compared to the grammatical elements of the analects.
In addition, bold attempts were made to understand the general interpretation and the interpretation of Zhu Xi’s commentaries in a slightly new way. In the chapter ‘不以其道得之’ of the ‘里仁’ section of 『Analects of Confucius』, the views of Li Hwang were accepted, and even if Zhu Xi’s views were insufficient in terms of meaning, they were critically accepted. In addition, there are cases that show the academic situation of the time, such as the inclusion of anecdotes related to Nammyeong Josik, and the understanding and approach to the similarities and differences of Jujieonron (朱子言論) in 『Hokmun』 and 『Janggu』 can be understood as a precursor to the later consideration of ‘Jujaeonrondongi’ seen in Han Wonjin.
In addition, in the interpretation of Daehak’s ‘Simbuljaeon(心不在焉)’, it shows the aspect of further developing Toegye’s views by emphasizing the subjective aspect of the mind that the mind controls the body. The argument of the subjectivity of the mind in the body is an important argument that was later connected to the view of mind and body and passed on to Baekho Yunhyu and Seongho School’s Lee Byeonghyu.
In this context, Lee Deokhong’s 『Saseojilui』 should be understood not as a compilation of Toegye’s studies, but as an important process of the further advancement of Toegye’s school’s interpretation of scriptures.
