중국 상장기업의 디지털 전환과 ESG성과가 감사보수에 미치는 영향 (The Effects of Enterprise Digital Transformation and ESG Performance on Audit Fees in China)

초록

[연구목적]전 세계 기업들이 점차 디지털화로 나아감에 따라, 디지털 전환이 기업 경영과 감사위험에 미치는 영향이 더욱 주목받고 있다. 동시에, ESG성과는 기업의 지속 가능한 발전의 일환으로서 점점 더 중요한 경영 과제로 자리잡고 있다. 이에 따라 본 연구는 기업 디지털 전환, ESG성과와 감사보수 간의 관계를 탐구하였으며, 특히 ESG성과가 디지털 전환과 감사보수의 관계에 미치는 영향을 조절할 수 있는지를 중점적으로 분석하였다.
[연구방법]본 연구는 2009년부터 2022년까지의 중국 상하이 및 심천 증권거래소 A주식 상장기업을 표본으로 실증분석을 수행하였다. 감사보수는 실제 감사보수와 비정상감사보수를 사용하였다. 기업 디지털 전환은 CSMAR 디지털 전환 모듈에서 제공받은 디지털 전환 관련 단어 빈도에 1을 더하여 로그로 변환한 값으로 측정하였다. ESG성과는 Huazheng ESG 등급으로 측정하였다.
[연구결과]첫째, 기업의 디지털 전환 정도가 높을수록 감사보수가 증가한다는 점이 확인되었다. 둘째, 기업의 ESG성과 수준이 높을수록 감사보수는 감소하는 경향을 보였다. 셋째, ESG성과는 조절효과를 통해 디지털 전환이 감사보수를 증가시키는 효과를 완화시켰다.
[연구의 시사점]감사인 입장에서 디지털 전환과 관련해 감사위험을 어떻게 평가하고 있는지, 디지털 전환 환경에 적합한 전산감사기법의 개발과 교육 및 훈련 등이 시급한 과제라는 점을 시사하고 있다. 또한 본 연구는 ESG경영활동을 통해 디지털 전환으로 인한 기업 및 감사인의 리스크 증가를 완화할 수 있음을 보여주고 있다.

영어초록

[Purpose]As companies worldwide are increasingly moving toward digitalization, the impact of digital transformation on corporate management and audit risk is drawing greater attention. Simultaneously, ESG performance has become an increasingly important management priority as part of a company’s sustainable development strategy. This study explores the relationship among corporate digital transformation, ESG performance, and audit fees, with a particular focus on whether ESG performance can moderate the relationship between digital transformation and audit fees.
[Methodology]This study conducted an empirical analysis using a sample of A－share listed companies on the Shanghai and Shenzhen Stock Exchanges in China from 2009 to 2022. Audit fees were measured using actual audit fees and abnormal audit fees. Corporate digital transformation was measured by adding one to the frequency of digital transformation－related terms provided by the CSMAR digital transformation module, then converting this value into a logarithm. ESG performance was measured using the Huazheng ESG ratings.
[Findings]First, a higher level of corporate digital transformation is associated with increased audit fees. Second, a higher level of corporate ESG performance tends to decrease audit fees. Third, through its moderating effect, ESG performance mitigates the effect of digital transformation on increasing audit fees.
[Implications]From an auditor’s perspective, this study suggests that evaluating audit risk related to digital transformation, as well as developing appropriate computerized auditing techniques, training, and education, are urgent tasks. Additionally, the study demonstrates that ESG management activities can help mitigate the increased risks faced by companies and auditors due to digital transformation.
