초록

무용은 언어가 사용되기 이전부터 신체적인 움직임을 통하여 인간의 정서(情緖)를 전달하는 자기 표현의 수단으로 사용되어왔다. 원시 사회의 생활에서 춤, 주술, 종교는 분리될 수 없으며, 춤은 열광(熱狂)과 긴장(緊張)의 해방감이 신체적으로나 정신적으로 고통을 받는 사람을 건강한 사람으로 변화시켰던, 치료제와 정신요법(精神療法)의 가장 오래된 형태라고 한다. 이때 춤은 공포, 슬픔, 노여움 및 기쁨을 표현하고 새로운 삶의 의미로 전환할 수 있는 원동력을 제공하며, 인간의 욕망을 형상화(形象化)된 춤속에 상징화(象徵化)시킴으로서 은유(隱喩)를 통한 현실로 만들려 하였다. 여기서 춤은 자아(自我)를 해방시키기 위한 내적 세계의 표현이며 불가사의(不可思議)한 무아지경(無我地境)을 경험하는 것이다.

영어초록

Dance therapy reduces negative conception, depression, and anxiety of schizophrenics and help them to recover from motor paralysis so that they can hold positive body-image. They are able to have opportunities to express their wills through neurological function and circulation organ work. Self-image and active self-conception can be promoted through integration and acception of physical-self, which will help schizophrenics lead normal life when they return to the society.

The main purpose of the study is define the influence of dance therapy on body-image of chronic schizophrenics. For the study, thirty patients who are being treated by psychiatry doctors were selected. They were divided into two groups; therapy-applied group and comparing group. The former consists of eight females and seven males, and the latter, nine females and six males. Dance therapy course was applied to the former group for ten weeks, once a day twice a week.

The dance therapy course was applied in sixteen stages. The physical variation of both groups was examined with figure picture examination method. The results are as follows;

Significant increase appeared in the head of the therapy-applied group which showed severe distorted condition on the examination before the therapy was applied(female: t(8)= -3.72, P<.01 ; male: t(7)= -8.21, P<.001). A great deal of improvement into the right body-image appeared in the arm part(female: t(8)=-4.64, P>.01 ; male: t(7)=-4.22, P<.01).
Futhermore, after the therapy was applied, they were able to perceive and express freely in the minute pars such as eyes, noses and fingers. As for the body-image of the part which shows the entire body, unstable part was improved and became stable (female: t(8)=-6.11, P<.001 : male: t(7)= -6.13, P<.001). The parts separately divided into the head, the upper part of the body and the lower part of the body in perception were able to work in harmony(female: t(8)= -3.08, P<.05 ; male: (t)= -2.71, P<.05)

As a result of figure picture after the therapy was applied, it appeared that significant increase was made, compared to the examination before the therapy was applied, when both female and male of the group showed distorted body-image(female: t(8)= -9.40, P<.001 ; male: t(7)= -10.22, P<.001), no significant increase showed in the comparing group after ten weeks.

In conclusion, the dance therapy appears to be very effective to correct and improve body-image of schizophrenics.
Therefore, the dance therapy should be selected as a method of psychotherapy. Moreover, intercooperation between systematic device which can be applied directly to patients and doctors and dance therapists are required.
Effective programs should be developed imminently for various diseases so that they can be applied and extend the range and contents to the patients in mental hospitals as well as special education, nursing homes and stress relief.
