1.1. 유형
1.1.1. 찬반형 문제
찬반형 문제는 어떤 주장이나 의견에 대한 찬반 여부를 묻는 문제이다. 이 유형에서는 얼마나 체계적이고 논리적으로 자신의 의견을 정리해서 말하느냐가 관건이다.
찬반형 문제의 기본적인 응시요령은 다음과 같다. 첫째, 문제를 듣는 동안 의견을 결정하고 일관성을 유지한다. 둘째, 15초 준비시간 동안 근거 2개를 떠올린다. 셋째, 첫 문장에서 자신의 찬반 입장을 분명히 밝힌다. 넷째, 두 개의 근거를 순서대로 제시한다. 마지막으로, 구체적인 예를 한 가지 들어 설명한다.
예를 들어, 아동의 부모가 최고의 선생님이자 친구가 되어야 한다는 주장에 대한 찬반 의견을 제시하는 문제가 있다. 이 경우 "I agree that parents should be the best teachers and friends to their child for the following reasons."라고 찬성 입장을 밝히고, 첫째로 "parents are always close to their children so they understand them better than anyone", 둘째로 "they love their child without any conditions"라는 근거를 제시할 수 있다. 그리고 "In the case of great figures, they have great parents who were their best teachers and friends"라는 구체적인 예를 들어 설명할 수 있다.""
1.1.2. 양자 택일형 문제
양자 택일형 문제는 두 가지 선택지 중 하나를 택하는 문제를 말한다. 토익 스피킹 Part 6에서는 양자 택일형 문제에 대해 체계적이고 논리적인 의견을 제시하는 것이 중요하다.
예를 들어 "Some people believe that school children should be forced to wear uniforms, but others believe that children should be allowed to choose what to wear. What do you agree with?"와 같은 문제가 주어진다. 이에 대해 "I think children should wear uniforms in school for the following reasons. First of all, they can save money because they don't have to buy many different clothes. So parents don't have to worry about the money to buy clothes. Second, they don't have to be conscious about other student's clothes. In my school days, I used to wear school uniforms and everything was OK."와 같이 자신의 의견을 제시하고 그 이유를 체계적으로 설명해야 한다.
또 다른 예로 "Some people can decide things very quickly. But other people need to consider their options very carefully and need a long time to decide. What is your style of decision making?"와 같은 문제가 있다. 이에 대해 "I prefer to take a long time before I make decisions for the following reasons. First of all, the decision to be made is an important one, then it doesn't matter, but if it is important, I should take time so I don't make mistakes.
